Room For All

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

Good morning! Happy DST Day! For treatments that go well, for the first outdoor walk of the calendar year, for well-sung music, for cautions about using stereotypes, for all the other things that will pop up today, we bring it with us to the Coffee Cart. Here, we discuss, support, remember, and reconnect over coffee, tea, and muffins. The coffee is fresh brewed, tea water is at the boil, and muffins warm from the oven. All is ready, everybody welcome. Come in and join in the conversations!

And some people find that sort of stereotype offensive. DL, maybe you should be a bit more careful. Assuming you'd like to be a bit more liked? You can choose to be like Berserk, if you'd rather. We don't care. But you may wish to focus your offensiveness a bit more. Or not.
I don’t find it offensive per se, but I do find that in these times it is not beneficial to portrait any nationality in a dumb way- the internet is supporting prejudices already way too much.

Anyone who thinks Germans are "dour" doesn't listen to German power metal. They are some of wackiest, weirdest bands in the scene. Lord of the Lost, Feuerschwanz, Helloween, all great metal bands who are anything but "dour" (okay, Lord of the Lost can go there being on the goth end of metal but that's more being goth than being German). And they are masters of festivals, too, whether it's a beerfest like Oktoberfest or a music festival like Wacken Open Air. Stereotyping a culture generally ends up missing the best parts of that culture. I see it in stereotypes of my wife's culture, too.

There's a considerable lack of respect when flippantly stereotyping. I wondered what these comments were about and lifted an ignore. That person is on ignore for me because I've gotten tired of the disrespectful comments in the name of "humour" and "peacemaking"

Good morning! Happy DST Day!
We don't even do that here :giggle:

And remeber our own Arminius?
*Very* lively

Personally I am ok with people making fun of themselves

Like I am ok with making fun of myself as a tranny, being born male, being a woman

As I am ok with Bob and Doug McKenzie making fun of themselves as Canadian

The dour German character does have a sense of humour -- at the end of their small skits, he always has does a sardonic smile -- he has to put up with his silly Brit roomie, who eventually gets his German citizenship (the same actor plays all 4)

So really no stereotypes or damaging stereotypes I see?

And so forth

I am glad to read this

I thank you

How do you feel aboot people taking the piss (if you know the term?) or making fun of themselves?

I'm here with a birthday cake for @GordW. Today is his birthday. Let's celebrate!

Happy birthday to Gord!
Happy birthday to Gord!

(stops singing when he remembers Gord is a mod and his singing probably violates the values on several levels)

Wish we could all sing and eat cake together!

Maybe eat cake and be merry together. I have never Mendy sing, and none of you have heard me sing. It is a bad experience. I sing a lot IRL, because I'm always singing along to music and I'm quite enthusiastic in church. It's not my finest quality. When I said that I was contemplating joining the choir, having given up the Board, the big guy was overheard to mutter that "perhaps the endless singing will sound better"...

Happy birthday, Gord! I proffer some special brownies, should anyone wish to indulge. They're carefully labelled; keep them out of reach of kids and critters. The chocolate chunks in them are roughly chopped Lindt Intense Orange bar.
