Welcome to Wondercafe2!

Siloam was our church when we lived in London. I grew up in Byron United. It was part of the Community of Concern after 1988 so that was out. Siloam was vibrant and active when we were there. That's where we got married

Still seems pretty active, though skewed older even compared to other UCCan congregations we've been to last time we were there. Arva United closed down and merged with them but not sure if they picked up many members from that.

Good morning! For the opportunity to hear a religious leader from a different faith, and the chance to approve a new pastoral relationship; for lunch with friends after services; for all the things that come up today, we gather in spirit round the Coffee Cart for conversation and community. The tea water is boiling, the coffee is fresh brewed, and the croissants are warm and flakey. All is ready, all are welcome. Bring your thoughts and stories, and share them. Carpe diem!

With an alien religious leader could we move to sell him on de Lights ... western market on the abuse of de Sire? Horse man ship ... rolling 40's?

Appears we are heading back into that contingency ... after this war some philosopher declared the next one would be fought with sticks and stones and thus we return to a crude learning ... knock abouts! They can't help themselves because of the overwhelming materialism ... not an essence of thought!

Essential thoughts? Ghastly ...

Ski racing is pretty much done for another year. Had club champs on the weekend. The girls who were supposed to do well, did well. One really shy and withdrawn girl I've been working with a lot to bring out some aggressiveness in her, snagged a podium spot out of nowhere. That was bloody amazing.

My boys need another year of growth in their division and they'll do better.

Got a nice note from the parents of the shy girl, telling me I'm the best coach she's ever had. That was sweet. Came with a Starbucks gift card. I'm still afraid of Starbucks. Ordering is confusing.

Going back to coaching after 25 years away was a solid decision. Next year, I'm back for at least one more season.

Will join in the fun

Oh, and I beat all my kids.

We'll be looking forward to a report next year. Hopefully your excellent coaching skills will mean at least one of your students will beat you next year. :)

It's a quiet day here. I finished my f*** cancer hat and have started one for a friend. Fun knit.

Last year they were all 13 and 14, and I beat the closest by 3 seconds. One year later, and I beat the closest by 2 seconds. That might establish a trend.

I hope one of my athletes beat me one day. I'm still going to try to not let it happen.

We were cross country skiers, never did downhill. A fifty some year old friend was definitely not impressed when her sixteen year old son claimed to be a good skier. He thought he was pretty talented because he could keep up to his mum. She wondered if she was unkind when she pointed out that he probably ought to be able to overtake her any time!

Well, today I had laser surgery for my glaucoma. Thought I was just going in for a consult, but it's all done. Absolutely quick and painless; we'll know in 3 months if it worked. Works for 3 to 5 years and can be repeated. Way better than trusting me to put in drops every night and my pressures were a bit up. Drove myself home. $4 worth of anti-inflammatory eye drops for 4 days, and I'm all good.

My vision makes things like downhill skiing and waterskiing a little too dangerous for regular consumption. I have done both (when I was a lot younger and stupider). I used to like cross-country skiing with my sister on her 40 acres north of here, but haven't in years and the old skis went to Value Village in the great purge.

This is something I may be facing soon enough. So, thank you Bette, it gives me enormous relief to hear you say "Absolutely quick and (especially) painless"

I just had a glaucoma scare as my eye doctor sent me to a specialist, but he said I'm fine. That was a relief.

I had a team of 20 this year, most of them girls. I have all kinds of kids. I have one that is a textbook skier and is probably technically better than I am. I have another that is so aggressive, she scares me. I have one that is a rower and works out with her team at 5am most mornings and is so powerful it's scary. Those three are just a joy to watch. But the rest are characters, too. One showed us all a sideshow she made the night before, planning out her life. She showed us the universities she would attend, the career she would have in sports management, what he future husband would look like, where they would live in London, what their vacation home would be, the names of all three of their children, the other vacation home in the Hamptons, their eventual divorce and how she would have an existential crisis and move to Seattle.

I mean, she had it all planned, right down to her retirement.

It was all delivered seriously and matter-of-fact. I was howling.
