Canadian election and other political stuff

Freeland is well qualified. If she were a man going against Carney the discussion would be different. If they criticized her for continuing Trudeau's policies, or challenged her on some policies, then fair enough. It just seems everyone is ignoring her and assuming Carney will be the next leader. He's a nice, solid white man. He does have skills. Being male and white seems to help him be closer to the finish line.

I think it does help him too, unfortunately. But I disagree that her comment would be taken differently if it had been made by a male. It depends on who. It might be taken differently if a different woman said it with a different tone, too. If Jody Wilson Raybould were running for the Liberals against both Carney and Freeland I’d be pulling for JWR. But that’s not happening.

I just don’t like CF and I like Carney better, so far.

The choice must be about who can best represent Canadian values
This.....and that's assuming that the majority even agree, more or less, on what those Canadian values are.
I really don't want to have to vote based on who can stand up to a deranged idiot, but who can stand firm on leading this country in the best way possible that brings mutual respect among nations and at home.....staying on a strong and steady path even through hard times ( and that will come at times), stop the blame, accept the sacrifices we will have to make, and help each other and stop looking at the government like it's our parent that has to fix everything. It's up to us too.

Unfortunately, though, there’s a lot at stake if they can’t stand up to the orange ignoramus. It has to be both. And, as you asked, what are those values we agree on? Because I don’t agree with much of what the Liberals have done in the past several years. Freeland was part of the team that examined the cost/ benefit of track 2 MAiD and supported it. If people don’t think that matters, think again because the Orange ignoramus and his chainsaw wielding wingman are doing the same thing with DEI by taking human rights backwards so marginalized people are desperate. It’s very important that we stand up to fascism and the orange dude is that fascist that threatens us the most, and whatever shared Canadian values we have. He’s been eroding them for years by garnering “fans” here. Whoever leads has to be a good antidote to that and I don’t think Freeland is that antidote.

Good points.

I think one reason the orange guy hates Freeland is that she is a strong woman who stood up to him. Sadly, I suspect the party may not be ready for a female leader. Or, more likely, she's been too close to Trudeau and that may hurt her chances.
Who knows?

If he does, that would mean she is important. The Orange Smurf does not generally go after unimportant people in the media...

Also, since he is on a big anti-CSJ kick, I think another reason could be Freeland is associated with the dreaded WEF/DAVOS?

Love your thoughts, Waterfall. It's crucial that our leaders embody Canadian values, reflecting the diversity and compassion that make our nation unique. I, too, hope for a leader who can guide us with integrity and wisdom, fostering mutual respect both at home and abroad.

Canada's true strength lies in our collective effort and unity. We must all support one another. It's up to each of us to step up and make a difference

Good points.

Thanks. You too. They made me think.

It’s funny but opposition to Trump seems to be a uniting force across party lines that good could come from. Maybe that’s a shared value. We’re not Americans and we value that. Maybe we can work with that. Being uniquely our own country doesn’t seem like much that sets us apart from the US day to day, until it’s threatened.

Then there is the question of relations and relating ...

It is said that Caesar had relations with all the senators of Rome and it was the ones with the senator's wives that caused his downfall. Unexpected folly or great expectations about doing him in ...

It all depends on how you spit it out ... word that is! There aren't enough words according to the inky mysteries, mainly because we don't know enough about it ... the Word!

Is that almost biblical in rejection?

Many of those I know that swear by it have not read it all or even in depth! So much for that vanity ...

Is relation and chemistry critical or something to be disposed of (prodigal) as we move towards excessive impersonality (auto nous belief)! Is a sceptical expression really a question in disguise? What did you expect ... something greater? A greater logos is beyond us as we do not like great words as a body ...

That's out-there ... yet to calm/come ... it was a dark and stormy night! That too is passe ... high's Tory ... subtlety? That's unheard of ... understood?

Anything of virtue the powers put down ... defining corruption ... ever feel like crap for your decisions and elections as a social order without intelligence?

Have you ever noted intellect being put down as the bad side of the whole desirable thing? It just is the way it is on this side of life designed to be hard to take ... thus many take off ... like Lou Ceil! She does pop up in varies tales like Dan McGrew ... deadly lady ... femme fatale ... thinking can kill desire!

Without mind ... imagine the out-come ... so it goes!

Relationships have such a great impact on our lives. It's fascinating to think about the delicate balance of power and personal connection.

Relationships and chemistry are the heartbeat of our existence! We're wired for connection, and it's what makes life so vibrant. It's fun to approsch life with curiosity. To see the magic in every interaction.

There's real power in truly connecting with others. Those moments of genuine connection are what make life worth living

Some say that's chemistry ... once known as alchemy and the pious changed that and declared it was solid ... then it broke up ... and few know where the shards went!

When women complain, it is whining. When men complain, it is assertive or speaking out. Men and women are shaped by culture in how to interpret actions.

My big problems with Freeland are her strong support for Israel's actions and her apparent support of Ukrainian nationalism including its fascist parts.

Nah, sorry, I can't agree. I've heard men whine and women speak assertively

Right, but some people seem to always ascribe whining to women and when a woman is being assertive, the "b" word gets used. Sexism is not yet dead, unfortunately.

May be the MOG within the outside skin or shell ... as in anima ... running parallel to animu ... thus moose's ... so much bull!

The b word gets used in casual conversation in my neighbourhood all the time. Regarding men and women. “Hey b****!”(amicable) or “He’s a b***!” (Not amicable) it’s no longer sexist in urban lingo. It’s been like that for awhile. It’s only sexist and impolite in certain environments. We’re all equal opportunity b*t***s

I’ve heard well raised otherwise polite people use street lingo in this day and age. It doesn’t bother me. I have bigger problems.

Anyway, I am all for electing a woman PM but I don’t think we have a good candidate available at present because she wasn’t tough enough on Trump. I’m not saying a woman isn’t capable I’m saying she showed us she wasn’t tough enough. If not with that (actually whiny) comment, then with her cabinet record.

Trudeau was a whiny b**** at times if that’s more egalitarian. I’m serious. So has Polievre been, and Elizabeth May. Charlie Angus couldn’t be called a whiny b***. He’s a scrappy b****, and he’d be a good leader in the age of Trump but he’s not running. Singh is good but racism is standing in his way. If Freeland gets in as leader I’m either not voting (I want strong anti-track 2 MAiD from somebody) or voting NDP. Whether I vote Liberal if Carney gets in, depends on his track 2 MAiD policy opinion going forward.

If JWR were a party leader slated to run for PM, I’d vote for that party. Heck, I’d vote for her as an independent but I don’t think she’d win and we cannot have Poilievre right now! Number one priority is saving Canada from a US style fascist takeover.

I like Singh. I've been disappointed in him lately. I wish he'd take a stronger stand. I suspect he's more of a mediator/peace maker and that it's difficult for him to do that. He has had lots of practice standing up to bullies in his life. I wish he would do that better now.
