22 Minutes doing what 22 Minutes does, what they have always done...
Exactly. I watched it. Pretty entertaining and they actually had guests from across the spectrum. CBC kind of stopped doing New Year's Eve comedy specials after Air Farce retired so it was nice to have one again. Danielle Smith was probably the most prominent Conservative to appear. Poilievre apparently turned down his invitation.

It was interesting to watch the Trudeau interview. There were several jumps in the editing. I wondered if the interviewer (Critch) stepped over the line and had to cut out segments. Trudeau did some dancing and non-answers. Of course that's what politicians do. It was different considering the circumstances.

I think he just had to edit out Trudeau going off into how we Canadians all have to stick together ( and vote for him again) and what a great job he has done so far. Didn’t want to give him a platform for his usual.

That absolutely makes sense too.

When asked if he would step down, Trudeau said that when his father was his age he still had 12 years of being PM ahead of him. It seemed like an arrogant (or something) response.

Should we try and remember how many things he did right vs wrong?
If we don't, aren't we just following PPs narrative?
Of course if the bad far outweighs the good then......

Honestly, I have a had time finding something, can you help me out?
All that comes to my mind, is that he legalized Cannabis- not really sure if that was an advantage.
Secondly, I think that he mostly didn’t do too much damage- he doesn’t like to take a stand and just weaselled through his time- but I refuse to set the bar so low that that is a positive.
Someone who doesn’t realize that his time has come- I can’t see much positive in his character. Yes, PP will be worse- but really, it could be worse should not be our benchmark for paying those people so much money to do their jobs.

Well that's sort of why I'm putting it out there. Do you think he handled the pandemic crisis well? Health plans? Support for disabilities? Housing crisis? That sort of thing. And of course the answers for those have to be based on the federal capabilities vs provincial
I will say this, people seem to admire bullies as of late (eg. Trump, PP) rather than more diplomacy and savvy at home and abroad.
With Jimmy Carter's passing I'm reminded how effective he was ( granted more so after his presidency) and he came from simple roots ( peanut farmer) and a Christian that demonstrated that by example rather than by being flamboyant. Trudeau is busted for being a "mere" teacher.....
It may be time for Trudeau to step down, but what has PP been doing other than campaigning? What are his achievements thus far?
We don't need a comedian or bully either, do we? Getting sick of watching him cut up Trudeau and using people's hate of Trudeau as a springboard into becoming Prime Minister. Where's the substance?

Pandemic, we did about as well as any Western country but the only credit he gets for that is for actually listening to people who know what they are doing vs. Trump. Again, a low bar.

Housing crisis? What measures that he has taken have actually helped? We aren't seeing much sign of relief on that front here in London or in Ottawa, the two cities I am most familiar with.

Disability support? Did he do anything? And he is arguably responsible for extending MAID to include disabilities with all the problems that entails.

Health plans? Didn't see much happen on his front there. All the healthcare issues and improvements that I have seen have been provincially driven.

I think the real problem is that he doesn't show leadership. He jumps on trends or cites court decisions to support his actions. Look at the GST/HST holiday thing? That was a straight steal from an NDP campaign proposal, except the NDP's was for a straight, permanent exemption.

I don't want PP but I am not sure we can handle four more years of Justin either. Him stepping aside for Freeland or Carney might be the best thing. Freeland seems like she might have some backbone and show some leadership. Ditto the former bank governor, though I worry if he would be too focused on economic policy given his background here and in the UK.

Okay now PP, How did he do as Housing minister......I hear Trudeau say he only built six houses and PP say it was 200,000.
Can't seem to find an article that tells us what it really was.

I wonder why we're scared of the NDP?
I find Singh calm and collected and more tuned in to people's needs.

I would hope we are not. There's still lingering OMGWTFBBQ they're socialists/communists doubts, I suspect. There's also the perception that they will bring in a raft of spending programs with no effort to balance them with cuts or revenue increases. So Trudeau on steroids. Which flies in the face of the number of fiscally responsible NDP governments that we have seen at the provincial level over the years.

Personally, I am not scared of them. WIth the Greens still looking a bit iffy after the fiasco around their last leader, the NDP are probably my party for the next election. Fortunately, I live in urban/suburban London where they might actually have a chance.

If taxes are reduced to nothing for everybody ... will anything ever get done properly?

Yet folk still idolize nothing ... especially regarding taxes! So nothing evolves ... into an enigma ...

He has claimed to be an ally. What does he know about being an ally given that he grew up as a privileged white boy with a name. Someone like that is capable of learning. If he had said something about not knowing about being and ally and wanting to learn, he'd have had more credibility. Instead he threw people like Jody Wilson-Raybould and now Chrystia Freeland under the bus. Nope, neither a feminist nor an ally.

I'll give him credit for putting women in senior positions and for aiming for 50% representation in the House.

The major promise he didn’t keep was to change the voting process to proportional elections.
I think thins will bite him in the upcoming elections- he would probably get more seats if the election was proportional.
Thins and fats. Justin's on his way out
