Room For All

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

As of January 9, my mom will be a permanent resident of a seniors' home! It's not the one where she is receiving respite care at the moment, but if a place comes available there, she can have it. This is a huge relief. The good news is that Mom is enjoying where she is now...She has lots of company -- family, plus the other residents who seem to like her, and when you don't have any memory, it's important to live each moment well. Which is what she is doing.
That sounds like good news for her and the family. Sending best wishes for the future.

Good morning! Happy Friday, even if it is the thirteenth. For placement of family members in care homes, adventures with telephones and remote controls, preventing mistakes on the remote with duct tape, all the other adventures in such homes and such circumstances, as well as whatever adventures pop up today, we bring them them to share at the Coffee Cart. We chat, support, celebrate and commiserate with each other, and join in tea, coffee and croissants.
The coffee is, of course, fresh brewed, the tea water (also good for hot chocolate!) is hot, and baked goodies are warm and soft. Come join in the fun! All are welcome, all is ready.

My sister's work takes her around the world. I sometimes travel to wherever she is. I do things on my own while she is working, and then we spend time together in the evening and weekends. It's an inexpensive vacation and gives us a chance to experience new things together.

I've had the chance to relax on a golf club resort complex in Dominican Republic, travel around Switzerland from a spa hotel in Aarau, and have fun in San Diego.
In 2014 we were scheduled to go the furthest, to Shanghai. All changed when I started treatments for cancer. Then other circumstances changed, and no big trips for a while. The last few years have been her health that stopped us.

Well, she's headed to Japan in January, and as my husband said, it's a great opportunity. (He has no interest in travel)
So, the ticket is bought, and now the planning begins.

Kind of like me when Mrs. M was a working academic and going to conferences and such. Of course, we were parenting for much of that period so if we did not want to take Little M for some reason, I had to stay home but I got a few interesting trips out of it. My first visits to Stockholm and Copenhagen, Rio de Janeiro, Valencia and Madrid in Spain, my first visit to the original London, Berlin.

Yesterday while sitting overlooking the meandering lake ( more like a river) in the north end of our town, I actually saw a robin all by himself hopping around...I didn't even know they stayed around in this frigid weather? (-10C)
Maybe it means spring is coming, lol!

Weird. They should be gone. Missed his flight, maybe? Was on a no-fly list? :ROFLMAO: Around here, it's cardinals, chickadees (and some other small songbirds that I am not sure of), blue jays, crows.

Was watching a squirrel and am quite convinced they are both highly skilled and totally batcrap insane. This one was at the end of an extremely thin branch that was clearly having trouble taking the squirrel's weight trying to get a seed pod or something (it's not a nut tree). And succeeded, apparently. Got back to firmer ground intact, at least. Cute as heck but gave me the willies just watching.

Robins usually head for warmer spots during the winter. However, even here in SK we occasionally have one that stays all winter.

I spent a year in Newfoundland in the 80's. I remember sitting in the cafeteria at work and seeing a robin sitting outside the window. It was April I think. The snow was blowing and the bird had his feathers puffed up and looked decidedly unhappy. Apparently he came home too soon. :)

I got my covid shot yesterday. The pharmacist was great. My arm doesn't hurt at all. I'm a little more tired than normal. I did also have a busy week so that can explain the fatigue. Knitting and a book are on the agenda for today.

Oh yeah we have tons of squirrels, (so busy burying their nuts)....we have huge trees in front of our place that are taller than the 3 story apt. building. We actually had two squirrels fall out of the trees....big thump and then scooted away.
The trees are huge pines and in between there are two huge willows....and they seem to build their nests in the two willows, and without their leaves now are quite exposed to the weather and in the spring to the predators (crows) to their young....never understood why they didn't choose the pines for more coverage.
And they also seem to remember where they bury their nuts!

The squirrel's nest behind me is in a deciduous tree, too. I suspect those nests are easier to build in a tree that branches a lot. Conifers tend to have single long limbs coming out of the trunk without as much branching.

Hmmm, that's true....

I got flu and COVID a week apart and neither caused much pain this time. Though maybe it's just my pharmacist getting better at giving shots. :giggle:

This pharmacist was particularly good. That being said, when I got my second shot I wondered whether the nurse had actually given it. It didn't hurt at all. Then I rolled onto that arm in the middle of the night......... yup, she gave it. :)
