Canadian election and other political stuff

At a press encounter about a month sgo, he described the armed forces as woke. The only thing I can see as being called woke is the emphasis on dealing with sexual assaults, gender bias, and racism.

He has always opposed funding for housing in the past and I do not know how his new housing policy would work. He has opposed funding for the arts, and multiculturalism. Killing the carbon tax kills the environmental rebates most Canadians get. He persistently says he will defund the CBC as soon as he can. He is pro corporations. He has been against most measures to protect the environment.

What funding for multiculturalism and the arts does there need to be?

That is open to debate. Male Anglophones tend to say none because their culture tends to dominate in society. People from minorities appreciate being visible. I am a Male Anglophone who appreciates opportunities to experience other cultures. I am outward looking.

Am wondering from the position of someone who's been living for 5+ years in a nation that isn't particularly multicultural, one in which I'm in a minority group. I have no to little problem living here, and the nation seems to operate very well being monocultural.

That said, on what do you think Canada's federal government should be spending dollars on when it comes to multiculturalism? What about when it comes to the arts?

That is best be decided by a committee that is given a budget and guidelines to use.
I would go further and say it should be an arms' length granting agency or maybe even a foundation with a specific charter to fund diversity through grants to local groups and events. Divorce it from political control completely. The government just says they are paying $xxx for multicultural programs in this year's budget and then makes a transfer to the agency.

But that's only one aspect of it. There's also the matter of offering services in languages besides English and French where numbers warrant OR, even better, providing a reliable translation service to government offices. I saw a demo last week of a translation tool for healthcare that connects the provider and patient with a live, human translator through a voice and video app. They support well over a hundred languages and are in use at a number of Ontario hospitals and clinics. Have a tablet on the desk in government public offices that connects automatically to such a service and you can offer services in any language for a reasonable cost.

FInally, there's respecting cultural norms non-judgementally. If someone comes for service, they should receive it regardless of what they are wearing or what they look like. Which costs nothing.

Don't you belong to a church that allows for you to minister in English? Does a large segment of the population have English as a second language? Are signs bilingual in the bigger cities?

Yes, I do, and I'm the English Ministry Pastor.

About 20% of South Koreans here are proficient in English. Many more know a little English, particularly, it seems, when it comes to their field of employment.
Are signs bilingual in the bigger cities?
About 40% of signs are bilingual Korean/English in the largest South Korean cities of Seoul and Busan. About 30% are where we live, in Gyeonggi

So it sounds like multiculturalism is occurring in Korea? Possibly in many other ways?

Multilingualism is not multiculturalism, though. It's just a facet of it. Multiculturalism is things like cities having public events for cultural festivals other than the dominant one (e.g. Caribana in Toronto), supporting groups that provide services and supports to the cultural community, and so on. You could be multilingual without being multicultural. Look at Europe where most educated people are at least bilingual, often more, but I don't think most European countries are truly multicultural in the way North America tends to be. Elements of it for sure, but not like a Toronto or Vancouver.

South Korea's gradually becoming more of a multicultural nation, but is still now monocultural. That's because it has a historically homogeneous population, and there's still a strong emphasis on having a unified national identity

Which is really true of all the East Asian countries. China is more diverse since it's sheer size means it has a number of non-Han Chinese minorities living within its borders but is still not multicultural in the same way North America is and certainly tries to control things like how religious faiths are expressed. Japan is similar to South Korea from what I hear via folks who have lived there to teach or on business.

Who should fund the arts? The Arts make a significant addition to the well-being and health of a society. THey don't happen for free. Who should fund them?

Supporting multiculturalism, allowing/enabling people to celebrate their heritage also adds greatly to the well-being and health of a society? How should that be supported and funded?

It is a people thing ... like oriented around the populace ... often under social structures. Being structural there are destructive principals that cannot abide with such abodes and ... cannot stand to halve to be bidden their time not making a fortune ... so the torus erupts ... mostly as canon on BS! A lot of that comes down from up there ... since the fortunes migrate in the other vector! On occasions a great blow causes scattering effect ... and topology suffers folly ... the entire thing comes down as Black Hole Theory ... just look up at night! Here most feral concepts are initiated in dreams ... as the determined say dreams and thought are just abstract! Nothing absolute there ... thus the source of worry to a lot hungry for control ... those of avarice ...

Alternate freaks?

To be honest, the days of private patronage have returned and governments are likely to take advantage of that to reduce their role in the arts. Patreon, YouTube Channel Memberships, and so on. Which is too bad, because that will only support artists who put in the legwork and can develop a dedicated audience. And some arts, e.g. performing arts like music or indie film, are more amenable to this approach than, say, painting.

And municipal consolidation allows debt to be passed down so MLA's and higher can extract a Beta cut ... double dippy? Ur Sallae ... the bare got yah naked as a ___ bird blanked to cover for those not cognizant of populaces pitching in if they wanted to contribute to support of creation, generation and all that ... a grand stew (cosmological)!

Support for funding the arts depends on what kind of society a person wants. If we had UBI, less funding would be needed for the arts as artists would be more able to provide for their basic needs as they create. Funding of the arts is more important to me than funding sports.

Agreed, but then there's the counter argument that Mozart, Michaelangelo, and Shakespeare all produced great creative works under private patronage. Which misses the point that absent that patronage, they would have been dirt poor, thereby giving the private patrons enormous power over cultural matters. Do we want the likes of Elon Musk or similar to be deciding what culture gets supported?
