I’m more afraid of extreme anti-maskers and antivaxxers than I am of Covid. They tend to pretty hotheaded. Not all, but we’ve seen some extreme examples. I’m pissed that they made a real pandemic political, and that muddied the response and messaging. In 2020/21 a lot of people died but they then muddied the waters with deliberate disinformation so extreme that clarifying what to do became more impossible. I think the pandemic might’ve been over in a year, maybe 18 months, were in not for them. I think the problem was they prevented Covid from being contained early enough. The consequence was that it, and the messaging around it, became a runaway train - too much effort went into political damage control and public health suffered.

for me, it wasn't just them, m'dear
(i dislike the term as i find it akin to the N word. the term is very vague

very very very complex things happened

which includes people like Gates Foundation being evil as well as helpful

authorities mixing up messages
(masks not to worry. masks good. wait, cloth masks don't work)

Google and META business model meaning they make money off encouraging DRAMA and OMG!

And intentional US gov't manipulation using social media platforms like twitter

And NY politicians sending hospitalized covid to old folx homes (and that didn't get him fired, it was sexual impropriety months later lol)

Now I know that my bank accounts can be frozen without a court order
That entire countries can have assets frozen in a weekend...

So what should have been simple wasn't

I saw for the first time how easy it was for Adolph Hitler to come to power...it wasn'y an abberation...various people's Authoritarian streaks came out...

So I both still love humans
And am a bit scared of them...

I saw how easy it is to Other people
Demonize peoplr
Scapegoat people

Antivaxxers aren't to me The Problem

Everything is the problem

That’s good. I think the health system’s a shitshow from my vantage point but I’m not opposed to the vaccine - just not convinced I need frequent boosters - maybe next fall with my flu shot.

Pandemic has a specific definition

The more correct word is Endemic?

Like HIV, the flu, Herpes, it is now Endemic and the world has to learn how to live with it

Heck, even China when it had its zero covid policy, locking people in their homes, causing some to starve eventually gave up because the virus cannot be contained

I am hoping for a more positive mutation still

And there was a time (still) and some people would call you a antivaxxer

A potentially dangerous word similar to Homophobe or Gay in the wrong circumstances

The government was always able to do that (ie think of how they already have access to bank accounts and they can garnish wages - they always could do it anytime to anyone if they wanted to.) The threat of militant antivaxxers gave them a reason to do that to some people. We’ve known for a long time that every once in awhile they freeze the accounts of foreigners and foreign born residents who are innocent but get caught up as collateral damage in some action or embargo the govt is taking against people from various countries. We know they are capable of things like internment camps, as happened in WW2.

And now that the emergencies act genie is out of the bottle it makes it easier for a far right govt to do worse, to be more authoritarian toward scapegoats - including disinformed antivaxxers who helped them get there - to further their agenda. The antivaxxers who followed all the far right propaganda were usefully duped into setting that stage. Don’t think the far right wouldn’t do worse. The real conspiracy actually going on is the rise of the far right and the tactics and tricks they’re using to gather strength and support. I don’t hate the people who’ve been duped - it’s really unfortunate, but they have been duped.

Humans with all their words and misconceptions raise serious concerns about indeterminate conditions that might be quirks or not ... just quarks in an unstable cosmos? This could evolve quickly into insane if intelligence is sacrificed consistently ...

One should know themselves ... and yet the self is a very poorly understood physician ... as physical things go ... in the abstract side ... "don't yah think they say" so we don't ... if you do you are considered out there!

Thus it went ... few took note ...
 
I finished reading "The Book of Lost Names" by Kristen Hamill. It is about forgers on WWII undermining the Nazis at great personal risk.

I reflected on the outcomes and realized Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy lost the war but fascism only had a setback. The fascist supporters in the Western countries are still on positions of influence working for increasing the wealth and power of the rich. They are found in the BC NDP and most of the political powers in governments and they are in the civil service.

Evil is among us ... often unconsciously if you do not believe in the existence of psyche, or the portion of psyche you are not cognizant of ... requires considerable coherence!

We'd rather not go there much of the time due to the onus ...

I don't think our gov't has always been able to do that? Didn't they need a court order before?

And yes, thanks to me living through these past few years, I can see what ordinary people are capable of.

I saw what China gov't did and what Australian gov't tried for a bit...Authoritarianism is too easy...

I concur, I however am concernes at it being easier for a government to do bad...the right incentive, the right scapegoating and so forth...

And for me, esp since the term anti-vaxxer is so vague, enough non anti-vaxxers were labelled that and subjected to the shunning etc too

(similar to how things are so hypervigilant* now in USA that LGBT can circular firing squad themselves...)

And it isn't I don't think just a global rise of the "far right" as you say...it can also be "ordinary" folx seeing an opp to gain power and so are doing so? i think that goes beyond right-left axis?

But completely "ordinary" forces like AI research and social media platforms and google and META are fuxxoring us up as well...CBC Ideas is doing a good series on this called the New World Disorder...CBC still consistently writes good stuff

For me this is human complexities and too many looking for simple reasons why...there aren't any...physics is easy...understanding origins of universe is easy...human behaviour, omg...too complex lol

(I was glad to hear the judge on the Emergencies Act said that he thought the truckers were treated unfairly...Canada is still a cool country...)

*and where ordinary folx reacting negatively to drag performers performing adult stuff with children around is getting conflated with LGBT rights, which it isn't...now its all shaka when the walls fell :(
