People actually like you and care for you here. They don't agree with you on lots of things, but don't take that as not liking you. If they didn't respect you at all, they wouldn't spend so much time and effort replying.
It depends on the topic. Some things I will take more personally. If it's really important to me it's hard to feel too kindly towards people who disagree at the time. Some things are not just topics when you live with, are directly affected by them them or fear the consequences of them. Disability is something I live with. I'm not going to like people who pass a bill that makes my life more dangerous or support a model that oppresses me. It's the same on both sides of such a disagreement. I don't think people like me while I'm disagreeing with them either. Let's be honest.
Stubbornness is not changing your position. It is not being upset that everyone else isn't changing theirs. One thing I learned from my father is he will debate a political topic until he's blue in the face. It's no fun to be on the other side. But I'm stubborn like that.
What happens in a debate is you argue your position, they argue theirs. Sometimes you discover down the road when a circumstance happens that causes pause for reflection that you've learned something about the other side of an argument. Has happened to me as I've gotten older and had different life experiences. As for social vs medical model (or their variations) I just don't see the medical model compatible with my values and experiences. And it is the UN position - it's not just some abstract adademic nuanced argument - it's not illogical or some fringe position. It has brought many positive changes that people may not realize. I think that's why I got so upset - because of the suggestion that it is some strange view from out of left field. I'm arguing a position that's widely recognized.Stubbornness is not changing your position. It is not being upset that everyone else isn't changing theirs.
