I watched this. I thought it was wonderful, if not somewhat disturbing. I watched with a friend and we talked about it afterwards. Just inexplicable-- the absolute strangeness of the behaviour of the characters until you realize this is a very insular culture who've occupied a small island for centuries.
I was reminded of a saying I heard referring to the Irish as "The men the gods made mad."

May approach the nature of the Scream in art ... it raels at yah ...

We watched You People on Netflix. It's about a mixed race couple who become engaged. It has an excellent cast and some very funny moments. One family is devout Jewish the other Muslim, after converting to reclaim their black heritage. I suspect they overplayed some stereotypes in order to make a point. Still, that was a challenge to watch. I did like how they wrapped it up. The movie did show how difficult it can be to blend cultures.

I've been re-watching Shameless on Netflix, as the big guy had not seen it. It's fun to re-watch the character development.

I eye that every time I get on NF but there's always higher priorities to watch. Right now, if I get back on it will be for Sandman and Wednesday.

Are higher priorities acceptable given the lessons from Beatitudes on meak essences ... these may be thin ... so to speak silently!

Extreme hummers ... ohm' nin inji?

Last night we watched Steven Soderburgh's movie Kimi - reasonably entertaining mystery/thriller for a Saturday night at home. Zoe Kravitz is excellent in the lead role. She's an agorphobic tech worker for a company with a product similar to Alexa. Won't tell you more. But the company name made me laugh - Amygdala. If you know your neuroanatormy - that's the area of brain responsible for detection of threat & issuing alarms. And I loved the loft where she lives :-) I could definitely live there.

How organic can one get in a world demanding inorganic stoning of thoughts? Edifice athion ... means nothing on the average! One has to dig organics ...

While knitting last night, I watched most of the first season of "The Lake" - comedic sitcom that also notes a few social issues/values but nevertheless has lots of funny stereotypes re cottaging & cottagers; on Prime video; well written; adult content - ie don't watch if you're language sensitive, gender issue sensitive etc. Enjoyed it. Will catch the last few episodes soon!

I just watched "White Tiger" Its set in India about the story of a young man born into a lower caste family in the rural countryside of India. He sets his sights on getting his drivers licence to become a driver for a rich city family in order to one day break out of poverty and become a rich man himself. Things become dark as time moves on as he pushes to achieve his goal, but at what price?
Mostly English with some subtitles.

Last night I watched a foreign film film called "The Price of Family"
It's a comedy about a family of 4 with the two older children moving out of their parents home. The mother has fears that once they move out they will never visit her much....her fears come true and they become more and more distant as time goes on. When they have other plans for Christmas with their friends, the parents concoct a rumour that they were suddenly left 6 million dollars after the death of Aunt Tea. As expected the children become steady visitors hoping to get some of the money for themselves.
It's a light comedy, but I enjoyed it.

We watched the documentary about Pamela Anderson on Netflix last night. It was interesting. We pass her house when we go through Ladysmith. She has sure had a Iife and seems more comfortable in her own skin lately

I watched it too, I was amazed that the courts allowed the stolen video to be sold worldwide....and on top of that she received no compensation...I think theres was something fishy about that.

I agree. What do you believe is the fishiness?

It struck me that Pamela seemed to get more flak than Tommy did. It is kind of sad that being in Playboy had such an impact on her life and image. I love that she played Roxy in Chicago. That seems fitting on so many levels.

Fishy, because I think any lawyer worth his/her salt would have been able to stop a stolen property from being marketed.

I wonder if this could ever be feature length?

Its Simon's Cat

If you haven't seen this before, @ninj this Staff groks cats completely :3

I remember when I saw the movie version of Dogville and I was wowed

It seemd to follow Bertold Bretcht's ideas in that it seemed to trust the audience's intelligence so the set was an open set with no buildings but lines telling when someone was in a new building

It told the story of a woman hiding from mobsters

Simply

It seemed very much to feel like a play to me

Also a surprise as the director is known for making movies that expresses his depression and aren't for those who don't want actual challenge with their movies lol which I am not in that mood for sometimes

Sometimes I really like a fun goofy movie

Like Knight's Tale. Full of women who rock and men who rock and apparently beloved by Medievalists :3

Watched an impactful documentary last night - "The Great Green Wall" - about an initiative in Africa that tackles many intersectional issues such as climate change, 'desertification', loss of employment, migration, poverty, shame, and the need for hope. And it incorporates awesome music - it's complex so you can read about it here. I learned a lot - including geography of the Sahel region which I'd never heard of. Available on a number of platforms now I think. I watched it on TVO, but I think it may be on Prime, Youtube etc. Highly recommend it.
