Back to I Am Mother.

Gave it a try last night but it didn't hold my attention. I am not big on special effects in movies.

For a total change of pace - we watched the movie "Everything, Everywhere, All the Time". Great cast, fast moving, wacky action adventure, lots of unexpected & often bizzarre twists to the story! Here's one online description - "Directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, collectively known as Daniels, the film is a hilarious and big-hearted sci-fi action adventure about an exhausted Chinese American woman (Michelle Yeoh) who can't seem to finish her taxes."
Although I liked the cast, I found it baffling. I wondered what I was missing because it came with such glowing recommendations.
Michelle Yeoh is awesome and it was great to see Jamie Lee Curtis' belly since she was just letting it all hang out. No Spanx or sucking in her gut. Refreshing to see that.

I'm watching "The Hidden Life of Pets' because I miss having a pet in general, more specifically a dog. But I'm not sure that I could afford the vet bills any more, so I may never get another dog. So...Netflix it is.

I really enjoyed that one. Narrated by Hugh Bonneville, who is a great animal lover.

We just watched Dog Gone on Netflix. I was a little afraid because movies involving dogs are usually tear jerkers. This was a nice one with minimal tears. It was fun.

On Sunday I went to an antique market with a friend - there was a large (not antique) display by someone selling indigenous artists works - but honestly it looked a bit sketchy (no pun intended) & I was reminded of the documentary movie "There Are No Fakes" (you can find it on youtube now I think - but make sure you watch the FULL version; it also streams on some services). It's about a member of the Bare Naked Ladies Band who purchases a work of art by Norval Morriseau - but it turns out to be of questionable origin. The film dives into lots of intrigue about an art forgery scam within the indigenous community in Thunder Bay, and various art dealers etc. So - a good mystery, and education on 'the business' of art. I saw it a few years ago, but think I will watch again.

So all of that led me to watching a show on CBC Gem Passionate Eye episode "The Pretendians" - also very interesting. And of course another episode came on after it - so I watched that too. And wow - this one was about the life of British Olympian runner Mo Farah - how at age 9 he was trafficked from his homeland in Africa into 'domestic slavery' in England. I had no idea such a thing could occur. Then of course how his life unfolds, and his journey to reconnect with his family of origin. Highly recommend - actual title is "The Real Mo Farah"

Look into the dark .. see nothing is the vector (so is the directive) ... if you do see it by your abiding light ... set fire to it so none will know your view ...

Stupifaction is the ideal ... somewhat numbing ... some relating of androgeny may do it is you cotton to it ... otherwise life will seem senseless as it is all about extreme desires ... Great Expectations in literature form? Now if you don't read it ... and intuit you're out of the circle as a tuit! Yes people do hate phoques ... just the same old thing by another label (name)?

Turbulance must be experienced at the best of times and other wise ... just the way odds stack in the quantum domain ...

I watched the movie "Fall" which was a riveting and tense drama.
After a young womans boyfriend falls to his death while climbing the face of a mountain, and witnessed by her and another friend, she goes into a deep depression for a time.
Her friend convinces her the best way out is to face her fears and climb an aerial communication pole in the desert around 2000 ft(or maybe it was 3000) up.
Interesting scenarios with a surprise ending.
If you're afraid of heights it will give you goose bumps and pass a night.

We've just started watching the new remake of Night Court. Melissa Rauch plays the judge who is the daughter of Harry Stone, the 1990's judge. John Larroquette is back along with a cast of characters. It's fun and funny. On CTV.

Unorthodox on Netflix is very good and worth watching.

I can't say the same for My Unorthodox Life. Tried the first episode then quit on it. It's easy to get the two series confused.

Whew. I was worried about that one. The original was such a wonderful perfect storm of comedy. It was not your typical 80s sitcom, leaning to being a bit more surreal or absurdist than a lot of American comedy of the day. I think I heard that Dan Fielding (Laroquette's character) is now the public defender?

Yes he is. He and Rauch are awesome together. They both have great timing and a great dynamic. There were some great LOL moments.

we just finished watching Valhalla. Hubby loved all the blood and gore! I watched for the historical (hysterical!) errors and shared them with him.
We followed it with a bunch of Marketplace shows about pot and other drugs..

Last night watched the feature film "The Banshees of Inisherin" - although listed as a 'comedy/drama' - there were humourous moments but it was also quite dark IMO. Some unexpected twists in a tale of friendship, ambitions, senselessness of war, passages of time. Well cast tho, and beautiful cinematography, and suble inferences. The subtitles were helpful in deciphering the strong Irish accents. Lots to reflect upon.

I watched this. I thought it was wonderful, if not somewhat disturbing. I watched with a friend and we talked about it afterwards. Just inexplicable-- the absolute strangeness of the behaviour of the characters until you realize this is a very insular culture who've occupied a small island for centuries.
I was reminded of a saying I heard referring to the Irish as "The men the gods made mad."
