How was church today?

A local C of E clergyman used to welcome questions and conversations at a local pub many years ago. It helped him to get to know some of the college students and young working people in the area.
The Regional Minsitry started by St. Andrew's UC in Calgary had a pub night each month aimed at young adults and led by a minister from another UC congregation.

Before the pandemic a United Church in North Central Toronto had such a thing. I am not sure if it has resumed.

An Anglican church in the Lakeview subdivision in Calgary also had a monthly pub night but it seemed to be led by lay people with the permission of the church. The one time I went, a couple was late because they had just gotten back from hiking in the mountains near Canmore that day. They were all seniors or close to being seniors except for the minister.

It was still happening in the last email i received from the youth and young adult program. The program also provided some of the support for campus ministry at two universities and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Naked Faith which is a once a month program for youth including a supper, a youth led worship service and special activities for leaders and youth. That program is hosted on alternate months by churches on the north and south sides of Calgary.

They also support Camp Caravan which is really vacation bible school in the summer time. Most of the host churches were United Churches in the Calgary area including Okotoks but included a church in Medicine Hat and a Catholic church in Calgary.

About 20% of the youth had no church connections outside of Naked Faith.

Like rye humus ... fecund matter under foot ... the Lou 's gang or Lewis? An unfounded subtle support system of insane nature? Much overseen or overlooked maybe eve AD Lib'd ... as Libre goes ...

Have appreciation of all things? What a strange urge for earth turning events ... then Walter Brennan and that ploughman going on over the horizon ... many worms uncovered ... bra en worms?

This sounds like it may be similar to the GO Project camps here in southern Ontario - centralized leadership development & programme which then travels out to other communities (invitied by, hosted by a local church) to deliver the programming. Great model.

Interesting - the perceived need somewhere for "permission" to be granted by the church for people to gather & discuss spirituality! Seemingly engaging mainly seniors, not perhaps the youth it had imagined.

I went to the local church we started attending before the pandemic. The new building is open and is great. The sanctuary space is flexible which is nice. It's a bright airy space. The minister spoke on the Corinthians passage about getting along. She used the MLK sermon "When Peace Becomes Obnoxious" as inspiration. It was very thought provoking.

We also watched @GordW preach on the same passage.

It was a good day.

It was started by seniors for seniors for developing social connections. To be done under the name of the church, they needed permission.

The depth of parables and metaphor should be expanded upon more than is done with the fields of ADs and lies ... they just don't stack up but the powers push em!

We had a visiting LLWL on Sunday while the Rev enjoyed a study week. She skirted the Unity passage in favour of the Matthew’fishers of men’ passage. Christian unity is a minefield.

I had a post show up on FB that indicated that the local UC had a need for an item. I responded that I had such a thing and they were welcome to borrow it. No response. I phoned the Office and was told someone would pick it up. Nobody showed. Sometime today I'll put it back where I keep it and wonder WHY DID I BOTHER?

Got notice that some professional property disposal organization is interested iin assisting local churches settle needs. One sector said we need to get back to the way we were doing things and thus we regress ... as someone obviously is trying to expedite sales of the churches and all that is related.

I find it curious that several of these churches have rich trust funds that couldn't be released ... but my guess is that some smart lawyr will find a loop hole as a liter-apture ... and then the monai will disappear ... is there a scent of something odoriferous?

I sort of followed my printed message for the first third but was fully free form for most of the rest of the message. Checked at the end to make sure I did not forget anything.

Ever had that moment of terror where you waxed eloquently on some part of a message and then realized you had left yourself only a few minutes to deal with the rest? Yeah, been there, done that, didn't want the t-shirt.
