I went for a short walk on the sidewalk yesterday....walking carefully, of course!...and I felt like I was walking in a tunnel in many places. The winter of 95-96 was like that too, only worse as the season wore on. When my son came from Sudbury on Christmas Eve, we kept telling him to be careful, or come another day, and I kept giving him snow updates. He had a beautiful, no-snow drive, and wondered what all the fuss was about, until he got to the city limits. Visibility was nil thanks to the blowing of the copious amounts of snow. We northerners understand this weather, even expect this weather...but it doesn't mean we LIKE this weather!

Mine was down from Ottawa but he was off starting on the 22nd so they came down ahead of the storm. They go back tomorrow but now we're into warmer weather and rain so less worry.

I made some really good chicken noodle soup for supper tonight. I've been watching this woman on YouTube lately so decided to try this recipe. It was yummy. I've left a pot simmering on the stove with some bowls if anyone is interested. There's some nice sourdough rolls as well. I didn't make those.

This is the recipe. Chicken noodle soup recipe

Good morning! Somehow, walks in the snow and chicken noodle soup seem to go together nicely. Hope they are both enjoyable.
The Coffee Cart is once again ready for the day's conversations and caring. Come on in and join the fun!

This is basically how my son learned to cook (besides helping his mother and I occasionally). Even picked up a couple recipes from Gordon "F***ing" Ramsay. My son has become quite the gourmet. We ordered thai when they were over Christmas Eve and there was a dish on the menu that I was unfamiliar with and he goes, "I've made it." :giggle: His partner is a lucky lady, and I'm not just saying that as a proud father. I've had his quesadillas and they are heavenly.

@Northwind - have you tried any of the Mitchell's Soups? You will prob see them in grocery stores on the island (also available by online order) - originated in Duncan, but relocated to Ontario a couple of years ago. They are sleeves of ingredients for soups - you add more stuff of course - and they are all DELICIOUS! Makes a big pot, so lots goes into our freezer as individual servings for lunch. But I just noticed they're experimenting with "Mitchell's Minis" that make only 4-6 servings. AND they have instapot recipes for many of them too. We just made some of the Chicken Herb soup the other day - yummy. We love the Mulligatawny & the Thai shrimp one is great; my mate loves their pea soup. Actually - they're all good LOL!

@Carolla we have used those. There is another small company out of Duncan that is great. We get their products. They also have an African dish we like and a chili.

*sigh* My parents have covid so I guess we'll be testing. I suspect they got it from my sister's family though, they risked the GI thing and went there. I don't think the GI illness was covid as the pattern was more clear of other things but my mom had mentioned one of the kids was very congested, sneezing more of a heads up to me suggesting I may want to delay more than usual. I had a steroid injection a few days ago too. There's also the possibility it was picked up shopping.

They tried to get paxlovid no success yesterday, trying to access it today. Hopefully they can!

They did well for not contracting it for such a long time, my aunt and uncle got it before my grandma's funeral and my mom kept testing then as she had been around my uncle a fair bit.

Just finished breakfast. Our driveway was plowed an hour ago so the rain coming tomorrow will not turn the new snow to more ice. Getting psyched up to get ready to go back to work on the drain line for our kitchen sink. Found chalky debris in a section of the line yesterday. I will cut out that section of line, make sure the adjacent sections are clean and replace that section with modifications to reduce the odds of it plugging again. Just need to get some parts and adhesive.

Oo. Is that like a tom yum soup (one of my favorite Asian soups)? And I haven't had Mulligatawny in eons.
I think similar to tom yum, but not exactly the same ingredients as far as I can see. It's actually called Thai Coconut Prawn Soup at Mitchell's. There are a lot of retailers in the London area that carry Mitchell's - perhaps a new year project for you :-)

This is the first Christmas I can remember that didn't include a special meal and family. We were both sick with some virus or another and the day, and several others, was mostly spent napping. So grateful that there was a good supply of healthy, home made soups in the freezer because neither of us had the ability to actually MAKE something to nourish our bodies.
The family gathering was to be at our older daughter's place and everyone made it there except for the Alberta branch and us. Our contributions for the "Chinese Gift Exchange" were taken there by our younger son and we joined in via Zoom. Not quite the same as being there, but it was quite a treat to see family members instead of just each other!
Today the Alberta crew planned to come for a few days, but used their smarts and cancelled because of the virus situation and the lousy road conditions.

Our specialty soup right now is Panamanian chicken soup. Chicken (we use drumsticks), cassava, and carrots with cilantro for seasoning. Mrs. M came up with it based on a soup we had in Panama on a tour there before the pandemic. Good stuff, and easier now that a Dominican on my team has pointed us to frozen cassava, which is already peeled and cut (cassava is a bit of a pain to prepare from its natural form).

(Somehow, I ended with two staff from vacation spots in the Caribbean, one from the Dominican and one from St. Lucia)

Hope you feel better soon and can have a celebration another time. I am hoping Orthodox Christmas Eve will be a virus-free time to see my sister's family.

There was a potluck dinner in the adult lounge here at the park on Christmas day. Now we're getting reports of sick people. That includes people going to the lounge when they're sick. I just called the office to ask them to post a reminder to not go to the lounge when they're sick. The manager is also going to do a deeper clean more frequently.
