Sun rose ... again? How many times does this have to occur ... before we see some things? Thus the rounding and round Eire ...

The fog was a proper "pea-souper" this morning. As I was driving to work, I was really hard-pressed to see the colour of the traffic lights until almost on top of them. In my neck of the woods, it often has something to do with our lake. It's a VERY deep lake, so it's really slow to warm up, but also slow to cool, so nights about zero combined with relatively warm water makes fogs even foggier.

I went out this morning to pick up my meds at the hospital since I couldn't get them at the cancer clinic yesterday. We were out of town. It was sunny this morning and will rain this afternoon. They're using the term "atmospheric river" today. I'll be happy inside finishing or coming close to finishing a sewing project. I'll need a break from an upsetting online discussion I'm having. I really need to put this down......

Rolling, rolling, rolling down the river...

:giggle:

Okay, doesn't quite work for an atmospheric river I guess. Still, can never go wrong with Tina Turner.

Anyhow, I raked. Again. I hope this is the last time but I do still have quite a few leaves left and couple weeks until the next yard waste collection so we shall see. Debating whether to squeeze in a walk before dinner. My back isn't the greatest after that work.

Right now, I am just sitting down and reviewing some of my forums.

I'm going to start a few leaves today, but my back's already sore from a shift at work, so we'll see. Likely last really nice day, though. Just returned from a short walk with the dog, and it's really quite balmy for almost-Hallowe-en. And there's a little more lawn furniture to get carted into the garage/shed.

I have already gathered up several wheelbarrows full of mulched leaves that are piled on several garden beds. The rest we will mulch and leave where they are. Leaves provide important shelter for some pollinators and important nutrition for the soil.

I rake the leaves that fall around the rose garden straight into the bed, sorta anchoring it with soil from the pots.

I still have an entire maple tree that's dropped hardly a leaf, so my gardens will be well mulched by the natural order of things.

We do some of that, too. More this year than other years. And, like you, we still have plenty to drop so it is not like there will be no leaves on the ground come snowfall.

Garden beds are mostly cleared up. Sometimes I put some of the garden bits on the garlic, mostly the squash leaves. Didn't do it this year. Leaf miners in the beets have been an issue, so those leaves always get cleaned up well.. Trying to interrupt the life cycle as much as possible. Leaves from the trees - isn't all that much there.

Once the frost lifted I biked to a craft fair from the local school for kids with learning disabilities. Bought Christmas cards made by a very talented local singer, who told me she started painting during Covid. Bought a blind for my new window which I had to shorten- and cut it at the wrong mark, damaging it in a way that it is now garbage. Autsch. I brought a snow shovel over to my new Korean neighbours ( I had three in my shed), and got to meet the wife. The kids are really cute and gave me apples. More shed clean up tomorrow, so I can put my ebike in it which is now still sitting in my living room.

I'm looking forward to the Halloween tradition of a walk with my nephews. Hopefully will go alright. Their school is on outbreak status of who knows what - COVID, RSV, flu, all of the above. So will be outdoor entirely including cake and birthday gift. Might turn on the fire to warm up a bit but it's gas so only does so much.

I convinced Chemguy to go last night to see it in the dark, all lit up. I tend to walk late, he does not. Was already quite crowded, both pedestrians and drivers. When I go later it means less people out, but also can mean some things are shut off for the night.

Almost all the leaves are off here. Hard Frost's and strong winds for three days knocked off almost all the remaining leaves. We have mostly oaks and ash trees with a few maples, poplars, and trees I do not recognize. The sumac is all low right now with none over about five feet.

4 mature maples on a not-big lot. 3 down (1 early/sick, which I have a small oak growing to replace), 1 to go. Locust long gone, and almost no big black bean pods this year (some years there are bags full).

We were supposed to have an "atmospheric river" rain for most of the day. We had some sun and some overcast. We were able to have a campfire visit with friends. It was ended abruptly by rain. It stopped raining as soon as we all got inside. I also did some work on the bag I'm seeing. It was much needed

Good morning! Happy Sunday! Fog and atmospheric rivers. Leaves, gardens and Halloween traditions. Measure twice, cut once. (Or, in a variation on a theme, 'Measure with a micrometer. Mark with chalk. Cut with an axe.') Anyway, the coffee cart is ready, come on in and join the conversation.

Enjoy the sunshine while itis available, though 'picking up meds' isn't a great occupation. .

Your mention of an atmospheric river reminded me that I had a question for you . Do you keep clothing in your travelling home for th

e times when rain is bucketing down? I used to keep mine in the camper rather than our house. I know plenty of people who don't own a raincoat and rubber boots though, so obviously not considered an essential.

Getting out for a while will make it easier to ignore abrasive comments online. There seem to be plenty of argumentative, name calling people online.
