So is anyone else being messed up by the Rogers Internet outage (wired and wireless data service in multiple regions across Canada)? I ended coming in to the office on a day I was supposed to remote. My home Internet is out (not Rogers but a third party that uses Rogers infrastructure) and my phone's hotspot was too slow to do much. WC2 is okay, though, so I guess Crocweb, our hosting service, is on Bell or Telus or something.

I have Telus for my phone. It has been tempting to find a less expensive provider. That being said, having lived away from the "centre of the universe" that is southern Ontario this long, I will never switch to Rogers. Once you leave the major metropolitan areas, you likely have little cell service from Rogers. So, I stay with Telus.

We have Xplornet. Only other choice at our site was Bell. I hate Bell's treatment of customers.
Interesting. They are the former mobile arm of MTS. We used Allstream (also owned by MTS prior to the Bell merger) at work for many years and they were pretty solid. Hadn't realized Xplornet had taken over their mobile arm.

Unaffected at home, as my phone is Telus, and my internet is a reseller running on Bell lines.

However, I'm scheduled to work 1-5:30, and I'm guessing it's gonna be a nightmare...

And in what must be a strange coincidence, there was a Rogers guy in the neighbourhood yesterday afternoon trying to sell some new wonderful service. I only went out to talk to him because I saw him before Lucy did, so I nipped out to forestall a Lucy-fit. After telling him about my limited, but cheap, and just fine for one person with limited needs set-up, we parted amicably before he had a chance to tell me how wonderful my life would be if I switched to Rogers...

Not that Bell is any angel, but I don't recall a Bell outage of this scale recently. Rogers is going at one a year right now (April 2021 was the previous one per CBC, though I don't recall that one. Need to check my email history since there should be related messages if there was).

This time. Once the Shaw takeover is complete, then they will probably be migrated to Rogers' backbone eventually.
I hadn't heard of that, good to know. Telus is currently updating their infrastructure in the neighbourhood, so I may consider switching although Telus has had their outages too.

It's turning into one of the longest, most complicated takeover deals in history, I think, but I suspect that it will go down eventually. They are just struggling to keep the competition folks happy.

Yeah, not many big telecom companies. I don't know how much service Rogers does here though, I don't think residential internet is even an option with them.

Hate is a strong word ... like Jude! Few understand of what I's peak ... could be their immersion in it ... power!

When we all are moved to a central spine or backbone of a single corporation ... can you envision cuts and further chaos?

Is there a prior vision as pre science? Not likely ... they do not see what's coming ... anon!

We have Shaw internet at home. They tried to sell me their mobile service. I told them I was not interested as long as there's any risk of them being taken over by Rogers.

We were out and about today. Debit was down of course, as were some ATMs. We had no problem using credit cards

There's been multiple here including landlines for calling 911. Shaw hasn't had that although there are times there are localized ones, usually at night.

When I was in FSJ I switched from Shaw to Telus because Shaw had regular outages. It was always a case of someone cutting the cable while digging. I've noticed that it continues. I've either had no or very minimal Telus outages

And the coolest thing about my pay as you go Telus is that I don't get those Amber alerts on my phone (it's not that I don't hear about them, because they come through the radio, which is on here every moment I'm awake).

What about weather ones?
