Kinda nice, Pavlos. Lots of influences I recognize. Hints of early Mumford and Sons, and another group that isn't coming to me quite at present.
 
I think I already mentioned somewhere that German heavy metal greats Scorpions have a new album out. These guys have been in the music business since I was in diapers (well, almost that long). And damn it, they still rock.


 
A new young lady She has some nice tones to her voice. Her name is Arpi Alto. she is from Armenia. Looks a lot like Julia Roberts.
And a fourth in her own language.
 
There's some really nice deep undertones there. It's almost incongruous with her appearance to some degree. She looks pretty, sounds very sultry.
 
The latest release from Floor Jansen's Live in Amsterdam is the best yet. Elan was written by Nightwish songwriter Tuomas Holopainen for their first album after Floor joined the band, so it's written for her and really suits her personality and style so well even with her solo backup band. Energetic, powerful stuff.


And Floor has done a wonderful thing and started an online community for her fans. It's a great bunch and fairly strict about keeping things like politics off the board so we can focus on music, art, and keeping up with Floor's burgeoning career, both solo and in Nightwish.
 
Going into this weekend, I assumed Floor's new release would be the musical highlight of the weekend. It's "Energize Me", which dates back to her days in the band After Forever and has lyrics by her. And don't get me wrong, it's a great performance of a terrific song.


But then this dropped...


Violet Orlandi is probably my new favorite singer, challenging even Floor now. But Violet and singer-guitarist-producer Jonathan Young, with whom she collaborates fairly regularly, doing Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper"? I probably should have just clicked Like before I even clicked Play.

And If forget if I posted this before, but Violet's recent cover of Nickelback's "This Is How You Remind Me" was another stunner. I'm not a fan of the Alberta rockers, but this is one song of theirs I do like and she takes it up a notch or three. Even the fact that it's a promo for one of her sponsors doesn't diminish it.

Spring is almost here in our neck of reality

There is the occasional Glaucous Gull with their variety of calls, from their chatter call to their "HELLO THERE I AM HERE!!!" scream

Of course the crows which among the birds here seem to have the widest diversity of calls

The Northern Flickas I can hear more than see. They are not as tolerant at being observed as crows are. The Flickas seem to have 3 different main songs. The single brief piercing squeak. The adorable much softer repeating squeak where they will dance in time to the squeaks. And the song that can be heard over longer distance, the one that prolly got adapted into Woody Woodpecker's character :3

And the starlings. Oh what mimicriers. I love hearing an eagle or a hawk and not finding one anywhere :3

And the robins are back in force. Lawn foraging. And whatnot.

Life is never dull here :3

Glad to hear spring is sprung out in Cascadia. We are getting there. Still some snow on the ground but 18C and sunny tomorrow should take care of that.

Been listening to the new Ghost album, Impera. I might have posted the first singles already, but this one is pretty good. It's a good album overall but I might like their last couple better. The Swedish spooks seems to have become my discovery of 2022, even though they've been around for about a decade and have a Grammy under their belt.

Society here hasn't fragmented so much that a conversation can't be had so that is good :3

Looking for ward to days in the 20s. I used to adore 6-10 overcast days with a light breeze. Not anymore lol

(I grok more fully why people flock to Az and Florida)

Its bizarre how people were convinced to live in Canada--seeing as its mostly ICE COLD lol those people must have been world class salecritters :3

I don't know. The indigenous ancestors migrated from Siberia which is no better and many European colonists came from Northern Europe so already acclimatized. ;)
 
I have been trying to cut back my Floor Jansen posts, but this is one I can't skip. Floor was a lyricist, as well as singer, for the bands After Forever, ReVamp, and Northward. However, she has been quiet on the writing front since joining Nightwish, which already has a brilliant composer and lyricist in the person of keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen. However, she has been returning to that side of her work in recent years and has now put out her first ever original solo single, the beginning of the run-up to her first solo album. And it is a wonderful song.

 
Okay, I thought Floor's new single was going to be my song of the day/week/month. Nope. US indie band Halocene teamed up with their Brazilian friend/collaborator Violet Orlandi (yeah, I know, another singer I won't shut up about) and dropped this beauty. It rocks hard and is pretty dark. Even has religious connotations (click through to Youtube and read the description and lyrics for details).

 
The band Concrete Castles takes their name from a line in the song "Thrill" which they wrote and recorded under their other moniker of First to Eleven back before they decided to put their original work under a separate band name and do covers as First to Eleven. On the debut Concrete Castles album Wish I Missed U, they released a new version of "Thrill" and they've done a third version as part of their Wish I Missed U Reimagined EP that just rolled. The EP features remixes and alternative versions of several songs from their debut album.


Interesting seeing Sam Gilman, their drummer, on piano here. The other band members are Audra Miller on vocals and Matt Yost on guitars.
 
It's not often that a new band can boast members with a 50+ year history in the music business, but Envy of None has that. It features guitarist Alex Lifeson, formerly of Rush, and bassist-singer Andy Curran, who started with the band Coney Hatch in the eighties. The vocalist is a very talented newcomer, Maiah Wynne. Canadian engineer-producer-teacher-musician Alfio Annibalini is also a member. Drums are provided by two session drummer, including Tim Oxford of Arkells. I had their debut album on tonight and it is excellent.
