However, with today's announcement by Ford and Elliott, it is hard to imagine where those QR codes will be needed. At least for the next 3 weeks (minimum).

True, may reduce lineups and give more time to show the booster has been added to the QR code too over the next weeks.

We have had them for a while but they weren't mandatory. You could still show a pre-barcode receipt plus ID. Now you have to have a QR coded receipt. Should have been sooner given that the non-barcoded ones are fairly easy to forge.

We haven't been able to use our vaccine cards for a couple months now. In fact my sister and I went to a restaurant in Victoria for lunch on Friday and the guy ahead of us was turned away for not having the QR code. I thanked the guy who was letting people in.
Dumb question...but what are they scanning them with? I've been using a paper one but will be getting QR one.

There's an app they are supposed to have on a phone. It scans the code, then checks it against a database and shows whether you are allowed in or not based on your vaccination status. For cases where they can't or don't have the app available, the vaccination history is still printed for manual checking.
So when they check our QR codes the person checking them at the door, scans our QR codes on his phone?

Bingo. And then gets a "check mark" or something like that if your passport is valid. To be honest, I have only been scanned once myself.
I've had to show my paper one about six times. First time was this summer on the grand river cruise from near caledonia. It kinda creeps me out that someone downloads my stuff on their phone though...can it be given to others to use?

The information is not downloaded. THe program just looks at it. When we heard at 11:30 this morning that restaurants were closing to in-person dining Wednesday, we decided to have lunch at a restaurant before coming home. The person just looked at my printed passport without using a scanner. Next week, Cosat Rica.

More news, the UK has approved Pfizers anti viral called Paxlovid, which is given within 3 days of symptom onset. It lowers hospitalization and death risk within 28 days by 89%.
It has 2 active ingredients
PF-07321332 and ritonavir, that acts by inhibiting a protease that prohibits the virus from replicating.
Two pills given twice a day for five days.
Administered to 18 year olds and up with mild to moderate Covid and a minimum of one risk factor for severe disease development.
Canada is still waiting for approval.
Merck's comparitive drug has not been approved in the UK or Canada yet.

I was just remembering the Quebec politicians that had their QR codes hacked last fall (2021) and personal info revealed. That must have been fixed?

I am retired. Our neighbours will be watching our house. Friends in Deep River will be looking after our dog. People who had booked accommodation in Samara have been cancelling their reservations so we should be able to get accommodation past our current reservation. Also so much had changed about travel so I do not believe the government would stop citizens from returning as long as we have a negative PCR test the day before.
