I prefer mine in a coffee mug. Holds more. C|__|
I actually had a friend once apologize to me profusely for serving me tea in a coffee mug. To her it was an unheard of breach of manners... as for me, I wondered what all the fuss was about. After all, they DO hold more.

I think that old attitude to tea is breaking down. A lot of the tea shops, including David's and Tea Haus, sell large tea mugs with a built-in lid and strainer. I was broken of that notion by my Chinese family. Over there, tea cups are larger, more like a coffee mug, with a lid so you can brew loose-leaf (they don't use bags over there) right in the cup, which is how I do it nowadays, too.

Well, save at the office. There I have a neat tea steeper from David's. You steep the tea in a large vessel, then after the appropriate amount of time, you sit it atop a cup and a valve opens to let the tea out through a strainer that keeps the leaves in. Should get one for home, too, really but haven't got around to it.

I like the big mugs, gives it a cozy feel. I have one of the top strainers but majority of the time use the in the mug ones, I find they work in a variety of mugs. Even the china set I went with (sadly ended up returning it all as the quality was poor, all the prints along the edge were poorly done, off center, peeling etc) had larger mugs, I think footed. I like those, my favourite footed mug broke years ago. I have some glass ones probably from ikea- nice to use with the top steeper so you don't overflow filling them.

In my youth tea was to be served in a cup that was resting on a saucer. Anything less was sacrilege.
We have those but they are part of the good china and only get pulled out for special occasions. Day to day, it's mugs or Chinese-style cups.

I'm tired. I got my Grandma's china. It was a less expensive set but it has the china mugs. Quality is better than what I picked.

I don't care about the shape that my tea cup comes in. I care a great deal about its composition. Only bone china, please.

The footed ones serve a purpose though. Can rest them on a bare leg without burning myself. I drink tea the way many do coffee, dragging it around to various places in the house, half drinking it at times.

Good morning, all! Monday is here. Let us begin this day with warming drinks from the coffee cart. Question for the day: If there are bone china tea cups, are there also bone china coffee mugs? If not, why not?

Yes there are bone china coffee mugs. Sometimes they can be bought in the same pattern as your "good dishes". For example, some of the Royal Albert patterns like Old Country Roses.

Bone china coffee mugs are also sold as stand alone items.

I used to pull them out for a special friend who really valued that tradition. She hasn't come to visit since Covid arrived in our lives. Of course, hardly anyone else has either!

Good morning. I have a couple bone china mugs that I use for tea. They are the best of both worlds where tea tastes best in china and stays warmer longer in a mug. Not to mention the mug holds more and is easier to operate

We woke to snow today. It's quite pretty.

I think the footed things are promoted as coffee mugs. I just think they are excellent for tea.

Good morning, all! As we continue the discussion of cups and mugs, let us fill them at the coffee cart, which is up and running for all your hot beverage needs. Help yourself.

There's a certain size of mug I prefer for coffee and a little bit larger size for tea. I have more Christmas mugs than I need so I bring out a selection of them every year.

The mugs I have in my kitchen this year are a bit bigger than the ones I generally use. But I have adjusted :)

I like a large container for beverages. My older sister indicates that it is improper to drink tea from other than a teacup ... so she bought me a 1\2 Liter teacup and saucer ... it grosses out some perspectives of daintiness!

That's the word!

Good morning, all! The coffee cart is ready to supply your hot beverage needs. Cushions have been fluffed, floor vacuumed, furniture dusted, etc. C'mon in and enjoy the company.
