My mothers nursing home in Germany is going back to requiring a daily test again for visitors after having had just proof of vaccination as the condition up to now.

How much does this test cost people? Is it reducing visitor interaction with seniors?

I honestly don't know, because it hasn't come up in my life, or that of my friends/neighbours, but I've heard $250 or so per test? I think that's the one for crossing borders, but I don't know.

For the antigen ones, more in the range of 25 - 75 I thought. You can pick them up at a pharmacy. Someone I know went to the UK, the pharmacies just had them out for free, including personal reasons (he had a birthday party for a 90 year old so took one shortly before going there).

Here's an example of one $40.

It looks like that includes a pharmacist interpreting results. I know there are take home ones as well, work has them. I couldn't find anything I trusted doing a really quick search, looks like maybe $29 for individual. Many sites request a quote, probably because companies buy them in groups.

That's for PCR in the US, not the antigen rapid tests. Ontario is providing rapid tests to schools now. Forget how many per student but they are paid for by the government.

We have one site in Halifax doing free quick tests and who give out one when you leave. I have picked up a bunch of free tests a couple of weeks ago to get my unvaccinated son to take one before he joins in at Thanksgiving and future Christmas meals invitation. Made him mad, I think he really fell for anti vaxx conspiracy, but he isn’ t talking to me, so not much I can do. He took the test after I threatened him to make a scene about it on my friend’s driveway ( where the supper was going to happen) if he doesn’t take the test in the privacy of his home…

We can pick up rapid tests free in this small town. Neither of us has picked one up, and I don't know of anyone who has used one.

As far as I know one can't get one for personal reasons for free here. I do know the government has used them in some settings, but fairly limited. Still, overall the cost isn't excessive if using them on occasion. Costs add up if doing it due the the restrictions protocol and wanting to go out to dinner, participate in sports, etc. regularly.

Do you have the rule that you can get into places with a negative test? NS has strict vaccinated only rule.

BC has vaccinated only spots as well. Restaurants, recreation facilities, visitors to health centres to name a few. I took a class at a local quilt store yesterday. We had to show proof of vaccine. I suspect that was the store's rule. None of these places allow unvaccinated even with a negative covid test.

I think the only places you can guarantee to get in without being doubly-vaxxed in Ontario are "essential services" - food (as in groceries, not restaurants), liquor and health care.

Libraries, too. They take your name and phone number but proof of vaccination is not required.

And health care also comprises at least the wider field of dentistry. I do have to COVID-screeen, I do have temperature taken, but I've not been asked for proof of vaccination status at the dentist, where I've been quite often recently.

No, one has to treat patient of any kind in healthcare. People who visit or accompany others however, in NS have to be double vaxxed. Exceptions may be if someone is really essential to the person he/ she accompanies- like mother of a minor, spouse of a person with dementia.

My dentist has brought the conversation towards vaccination and took note when I said I was. He still would have to treat me, if I wasn’t , but being practically in someone’s mouth, I think, it just makes him feel better. And he didn’t ask for proof.

Yes, I've probably told someone in that office that I was double-vaxxed, but don't show proof.

And given that I've had a couple of PDF fails, for whatever reason, on my phone, it's a good thing.

It's loose here, businesses can choose to have restrictions or to do the REP and then looser rules for what's allowed. Yes, a negative tests counts for the REP.
