From a doctor friend: good article. I appreciate your posting this. So true. Even the title "alternative" implies better than, but the truth is dark indeed. The medical folks spend a lot of effort on evidence to guide therapies, and the public really does not understand which type of evidence is ok to trust at the end of the day.

Excellent post. Alternative cures for serious diseases remind me of the highly advertised weight loss products. "Take just one small drink of this secret formula every day before breakfast and watch the fat disappear". The user isn't told what is in the drink- and it could be harmful in addition to being useless for weight loss.

'Alternative' doesn't really have a great level of meaning as so many people apply it to so many things. Condradictory to evidence, natural, non-prescription, lifestyle, emerging evidence etc.
I wish we could drop the alternative aspect and get better data on specific conditions and supplements.
I find things frustrating like having 2 doctors unaware something as common as eczema (although severe) can lower potassium.

Most based on unwise application of steroidal issues ... leaves some in stasis! Established and firm about whatever ... an unknown!

Yeah and the problem is that some of it actually has merit, like acupuncture and reiki, but gets kind of tainted by association with loonier element of the "alternative" medicine set.

I have not generally gone for alternative medicine save some supplements that I (or Mrs. M) have researched and that seem to have some value per research.

Do you know what other group ends up enmeshed in some of these serious pseudo-sciences? People with auto-immune disorders, including all the varieties of "atopic dermatitis" diagnosed? You end up either with a psychologist, or a dermatologist, neither of whom are interested/capable of digging under the surface of symptoms, it appears. And dermatologists are totally wedded to steroids (and totally ignore all of the topical steroid withdrawal problems, never mind the horror that is prednisone), and more recently, to immune-suppressants with side effects that include skin cancer. It's a friggin' nightmare. And immunologists are rarer than hens teeth.

I had to leave an autoimmune Facebook group as waaaay too many people took the Medical Medium as their bible.

A medical medium with mindful intent would be nice to encounter ... so many are mindless because of their alternate searches ... nothing to do with knowledge of sickness; physical, emotional, or mental --- that'd be Atman (an ancient physician; denied and set loose). Unless Lucid you wouldn't observe IT!

Straight celery juice? 16 oz a day? And he can read people's health? Damn you, Google, I want those 15 minutes back.

Funny celery is a development from the wort plant ... sometimes labelled hogweed in many manifestations!

Now the odd thing is among the toxins found therein ... they may have pharmaceutical value if used sparingly ... alas sparingly is not a thing that satisfies the human flaws ... so we blew it again in an avid path headed for avarice ...

Be mindful of the pig that will swallow anything ... unless they can process what's gulled! May lead to flying pigs ...
