So we turned off at the right exit. We approached Cromarty and the GPS said to turn right. Twice. What did driver do? Turn left. So back to the exit east of the one we took, back on the 401 and back to the right exit. We are here now and getting set up.

Which one was the driver at the time?

I have a friend who I used to travel with. We were perfect travel companions. She can’t tell right from left- it runs in her family, her father couldn’t either. So she would be driving and I would tell her directions: ” next intersection we are going ”my” / ” your” way. “It was no problem that way. Works better than “ the other left!”

I'm the better navigator of the two of us. My guard was down because the GPS did say turn right, twice. The excuse is that he was in autopilot. We usually come to this park from the next exit which would have involved a left turn

Good morning! As we ponder long drives, or extended layovers, or giving of driving directions, and ignoring the GPS, let us pause for warming beverages. The coffee is brewed, water for tea is a-boilin', all is ready. Help yourself.

I was able to get some TV stations using the antenna. Has CFPL gone to s**t? Or is it just summer programming?

It's a CTV affiliate now (they bought it years ago) so certainly a different beast than I remember from my youth (when it was an independent). There's really no independent local media around here anymore. 980News is affiliated with Global and the Free Press has been Sunmedia and now Postmedia during my time here.

Scared the **** out of some spider this morning. They were apparently trying to build a web between a small tree by the deck and the deck lights when I came out and blundered into it. After I brushed the silk off, I noticed a piece hanging down with the poor spider scrambling up it.

Speaking of outside, I went down to the lower forest garden yesterday , and was swarmed by mosquitos.
Tried again today, same thing.
Probably going to have to wait for a breezy day. ugh.

All the rain, and middling temperatures have caused perfect conditions for mosquitoes.

Haven't had this problem in the few years we have been here.
Guess that means that the mosquito eaters are getting a real feast.

Not too bad around our property but I wonder what it is like in the valley. Haven't gone hiking down there in a few weeks. Seeing lots of other bugs around, though. Even got bitten by some godawful little beast. Looked like a stink bug of some kind but apparently only the carnivorous ones bite and this one looked like a herbivorous one. No lasting damage but it hurt like hell at first. I'm working on the deck right now and lots of little butterflies and moths around.

We had let our guard down re: mosquitoes. There aren't many on the island and the ones you see there are puny. Unlike the northern BC and AB variety which have eyelashes. Now that we're back in Ontario I have been a delicious feast for the Ontario mosquitoes. They may not have eyelashes. They are though, hungry and plentiful.

Do those Thermacell things really work? (Inquiring for a friend ;) )

My mate seems to attract most of the mosquitos whenever we are out together - I am grateful for that! But the whining ... oh my. He's never far from a can of deet when in the 'great outdoors' - at dusk especially.

Wishing everyone a quiet day of puttering slowly in the heat, then cooling off. Unfortunately our local beaches are 'posted' - ie NO SWIMMING due to the heavy rainfalls recently which often result in an overgrowth of nasty bacteria along the beachfront. Sigh.

I know I get bitten but I barely notice. Don't have a reaction. So I have no idea how many I attract. If I don't see them biting me, I tend to not know they are there. Strangely, even the tropical mosquitoes in Panama and Costa Rica didn't bother me (still put on deet out of fear of weird tropical diseases, though). I always assumed I was just used to ours from years of getting eaten alive at the cottage.
