Novel Coronavirus

On top of that, I think summertime gives a false security. How soon we forget.

You mean there is supposed to be some recall when so many abide by the belief that intelligence, knowledge and all that crap is evil? Yet what would we do without the unknowing ... there'd be no one to run for office! That's something to reconnoiter ...

May touch a few nerves somewhere in the outer fringes ... Hebrides or Hie bred ease ... they get upset over nothing! Recall there are 2 nothings one regarding emotions and the alternate as contrary intelligence ... if rabid you can keep them dancing! The wave approaches as designated by Webster on the word anon ... it comes ... the charge of thought? Into a cell it goes ... like that mystic from Northumbria ... cool place for fuzzy words!

Idioms we should know better?

Some say they're a paen in the behind to learn at present ...

The Nashville North tent is requiring either proof of vaccination although I think they are accepting only 1 dose, or else a rapid covid test. Will be interesting to see how that goes. I hope there is data after on any potential spread, contact tracing especially for variants etc.

I'm sensing an overall tide of "I can't take this anymore" around masks and vaccination requirements and physical distancing. I hope that we have enough people covered that herd immunity will cover it. Or next fall/winter are going to be very awful. Watch the Oz cases spike with winter? Ouch.

Masking isn't required most places here, yet most are still doing it.
I'm hoping most people are willing to continue with reasonable infection control procedures. Sure, people want to get together. Maybe now though someone with a minor cold will skip that gathering, stay home from work and catchup on stuffthat can be completed from home, etc. It's nice to be able to shop but it's not a big deal for most people to mask up in a mall, etc.

There's also the more systematic things. Professors posting notes online, people not being thought of as lazy when getting things done at home.

German infection control officials say that masks should be worn until 85 % of the population is vaccinated in order to beat the virus. At the same time, Pfizer says that its protection is getting less after 6 months and another vaccination should be happening within 6-12 months.

Seems like most of the non maskers are selfish in general. 1 person at the clinic out of about 10 of us not wearing one (I was told they are requiring masks). They had to look to see when she was last there as it changes the treatment time. She was insisting she had shown up a week ago. No, she had cancelled 7 different appointments over 2 weeks, she treats it like it's a book any slot, not a weekly appointment.

Not quite grown up yet. They help us appreciate grown ups.

Ontario Stage 3 has been moved back , now starting a week today (should have been the 21st). It reopens most businesses to at least some degree, allows larger gatherings, but social distancing and masking remain in effect for those businesses and gatherings.

Given that our vaccination program and health indicators are already at the level they want for Stage 3, it is actually hard to argue against this decision, even if my cautious nature would likely prefer to have waited the full 3 weeks between stages.

Not sure what's going on with the masking policy at the clinic - other than they do ask people to wear them. Last time I mentioned the person who wasn't wearing one.
Today, there was a person who I figured could get a pass - he had on something like a neck brace, but bulkier. The style I prefer, around the head would be a no, and getting it around his ears didn't look like it would be simple. The receptionist though asked if he had one and when he said no, said they were mandatory so she went to go get one for him. I was in treatment so didn't see the putting it on method.

Maybe it depends on the staff member someone deals with?

I think the current short term trends look a bit concerning, although difficult to really extrapolate this early into a slight increase.
Looking at other places though, I think there is reason to be concerned. Hopefully sities are paying close attention too and will step up quickly with masking as the province's only concern is the hospital system - and considering the limited service hours and locations that threshold isn't very low.

Example - last week Edmonton had 82 cases, we're now up to 102. The R value has creeped back to over 1, short term. The R value calculations the province does isn't going to pick that up yet - but it's close 0.97 for the city.

The question will be, what are the stats when compare vaccinated to unvaccinated for both positive test results and for hospitalizations

That info is there. The concern here is there's very few restrictions in place and cases are starting to go up again.
Seems too soon to drop most things done to limit spread.

Agreed. This "abandon all rules" trend seems a slap in the face to the the 18 months of restrictions.
I agree with this......it's too soon, it's summer and it all seems better,.....they will have a heck of time if all hell breaks loose in the winter and they try to convince people to sacrifice again.

Do you have specifics? Are you including under 12 in the "good chunk"
Yeah, locally, that's 21% of the population and then add in others with allergies to ingredients, immunodeficiencies who don't respond to vaccines so no point in wasting it, are currently too sick, etc.

Seriously @ChemGal. Do you honestly think that I am frustrated with under 12?

Regarding those for whom doctors feel they should not have any vaccine.... They are not a good chunk of the population, and tend to self isolate anyhow due to immune issues. I sure did when under going chemo
