I think we're pretty much aware that the 3 feet rule no longer applies and this virus can transmit at greater lengths than previously thought.....so personally I wish people would include self monitoring as part of the situation and include added precautions to whatever the gov't tells us.....I think everyone should consider part of this plan also caters to large businesses that allows for risk of death to some in the population within their profit margins. Keep on being safe as we enjoy our increased freedom.

There's a 3 ft rule in ON?
Outdoors, I think the 2 m rule is a good one. While transmission is airborne, it's limited. We don't see COVID spreading through a class for example. Outdoor transmission occurs, but limited. Things like patios (not just within a group), long close contact.
I wouldn't want to be in a high density situation now, with everyone spaced 2 m apart, but I am comfortable being 2 m away from others in open places where there's a lot of wiggle room. For example, I went to a concert in the summer, there were circles drawn on the grass, so there was a bit of space to move within the circle (they weren't just dots to stand on) and the edges of each were a minimum of 2 m away from every other circle. Had the entire area been filled, with the variants I wouldn't want to be in the middle with the area filled. Less than half the circles were taken up though.

Golf isn't a very crowded activity, I don't see the need to shut that down. Basketball is more questionable, unless it's a household or a 2 household cohort on a court at a time. I hope we do put off things like team cohorts that was seen earlier, where people had a person cohort, team cohort, etc. The professional sports cohorts are a bit different, as they aren't overlapping cohorts beyond that.

She must have meant 6 (which is about 2m).

For the most part, I don't get together in large groups much anyhow. I have an in-person meeting in a couple weeks but we'll be in our training room which has tons of space. Last meeting I had in there, we were more like 3-4m apart and masked.

Basketball depends on what it is. We have a hoop in the park nears us and its usually just 2-4 people taking shots or playing 1 on 1/2 on 2. Not enough room for actual games. We also have tennis courts but tennis, of course, is another one that's easy to space out unless you're playing doubles. And people were playing on it last night when I was out for my walk so I am not even sure if they are enforcing for public courts like this one (it is just asphalt surface and kids use it for ball hockey in the off-season).

Gad.....the heat must be getting to me, lol......it's 2m or 6ft in Ontario.....so yeah it's good, but I'd want to be as far away as possible if someone actually had Covid.....but probably wouldn't know that.

I wish more people would be totally honest when they test positive. The person who tested positive that Chemguy was around didn't pass it on to anyone else at work, nor his family. Just an example, not really data plus that was prior to the variants.
There seem to be many public stories - "I don't know how I got it". If I were to get it I would have a very narrow list of possibilities.

Exactly, and not only that there's the ones that don't know they have it. It's good they're starting to implement more fast testing in some work places here.

They say how they were so 'careful' though. If they were that careful, why do they have no idea how they contracted it?
Our list is something like Chemguy work, me medical appointments and the few in store trips he makes. Maybe an outdoor visit with my sister and nephews upcoming.

People can also be funny about risk. I bought something from someone who had a covid positive house. She waited until they were out of the isolation period, and it was just a porch pickup. My mom was a bit horrified about the risk that I took. I didn't see it as a risk. 1 this person was allowed to be out in public by then. 2. Even if she was really contagious at that point, how would I get it? She wasn't outside when I picked up the item. I picked it up with one hand, put it in a bag and used hand sanitizer right away - thinking moreso she was working on items while in isolation.
When an area has a 1% current infection rate, one is likely to come across someone at a grocery store who is positive and doesn't know or just fresh out of isolation. My mom goes into grocery stores but she thought I was taking a big risk.

But even if that were true it doesn't help that the customer continues to spread it for a time period to other people in the store or other places.
Our system isn't perfect that's for sure.

Short of rigidly enforced stay-at-home orders and locking up all positives in quarantine centers, how perfect can it really get? Only an authoritarian country like China could pull that one off and it is largely how they contained the Wuhan outbreak last year given the absence of vaccines or known effective treatments at that point. Of course it helps that their culture is less individualist and more willing to accept some short-term individual pain for long-term societal and individual gain than ours seems to be.

Not many countries use their model for sure!

It's helpful in understanding hiw it speads. The people who say they have been super careful and have no idea how they picked it up - i don't believe that if they have no idea they could have been all that careful.

Which seems unlikely, unless people are being really careless in terms of objects. Ie. Fomite transmission seems to be extremely low, but I'm not about to place my mask on a surface where others have just placed their worn masks, and then put it on. Shared bathrooms are a place I am cautious about too. When I saw my parents in the summer for an outdoor visit, I did use hand sanitizer after getting back outside after using the washroom and my mom had cleaned prior to us coming as well.

I think work places and school settings give a lot of information. With work, if not eating together or working in really close proximity, transmission is fairly low.
 
Yet people deny change and do the same thing over and over expecting insane results! That's overblown emotions as irrational! The stage we're in ...
 
Sad to read today that the virus has been delivered to the Sherpas of Nepal. Probably by westerners bypassing quarantine and testing rules.

Yeah, CBC was saying that an Austrian guide reported a major outbreak on Everest. Nepal really needs to clamp down on activity there, anyhow. It has been a real problem in recent years even absent pandemics. Of course, the government makes a nice chunk of change on climbing permits and similar so I have my doubts about any real action being taken.

 
Dozens of covid cases continue to be delivered, every week, to Toronto Pearson Airport, which is actually in Mississauga. Also, those with private or executive jets continue to fly into smaller airports and get around the covid rules.
 
umm, is there reporting of covid case #s coming in at pearson ? I haven't seen them provided recently. Also, if they are being identified at arrival, then is the presumption that they are being quarantined?
