Novel Coronavirus

Within three days, NS’s numbers are up to 150 today. Rumour has it it started with a Ontario family who came and attended a family/ friends event not having isolated. Now it is community spread in Halifax, they say it is not community spread outside of Halifax yet. But with having things locking down in Hfx but not outside of it, chances are people are just coming here to shop. Our Dr. Strang publicly said he is scared. I like his honesty. We are scared, too. Unfortunately, not everybody is.
So back to not going out anymore ( voluntarily, as I am not in Hfx). A nurse on the unit today said, she has only been to Walmart once in the past year. I appreciate nurses being conscious about what they do.

Canadian-made COVID-19 antibody treatment sitting on shelves due to lack of administration plan

Canada needs to step up medical care. There is data as to who is at risk, why the lack of medical care?

I'm pretty much staying home. Countryside walks, local grocery store first thing in the morning when I'm usually the only customer. I haven't been to any big stores since Covid arrived in the country. My sons come over though- one of them frequently.

I have not shopped at Walmart in many years. I am vocal enough about my disapproval of their business model that my daughter, desperate for cheap groceries, hesitated to even ask me to drop her there one day, lol. (I did drop her off.)

They are hardly our go-to, esp. for groceries (our No Frills and the Chinese stores are as cheap or cheaper and have better produce), but there are some things that we can get there more easily than other stores.

I wonder if more restrictions will come into place this week but I'm also trying to think of what is different from Christmas. Patios and outdoor gatherings are the only things that come to mind, although the school closures and kids rec is only certain zones. I guess K-6 is still in place which I think is odd with many schools being K-9.
There are likely other differences but since I don't make use of the it's hard to compare especially as the different steps aren't being done all at once. We get things like step 1.5.

If people would just follow the rules things would likely be under control. I would like to see a crackdown on those not.

I'd like to see tighter travel restrictions too, and enforcement of fines. That said, during 'stay at home' orders I have travelled once out of Peel Region. When my daughter had coronavirus we had to closely monitor her blood oxygen levels - those fingertip oximeters couldn't be sourced in hotzone Peel. I travelled to neighbouring Halton Region to purchase one - curbside p/u. 3kms there and back.

Finally, Peel and Toronto have issued a public health order which will allow them to shut down businesses with 5 or more linked covid cases. The Gov of Ontario would not do this. Not surprisingly the first two closures are Amazon warehouses (Brampton and Bolton)

I see Barrie had another anti masking anti lock protest. At the same time as the hospital is full with 15 Covid patients on ventilators

i don’t get it.

Makes me wonder though. If these people at the protest yesterday get ill, will they run to the hospital for help?
Of course they will and Im sure they wont mention they dont wear masks or isolate. I dont get why these protests arent stopped.
.Listening to the CBC the other day and someone mentioned the RIDE program....it is also unconstitutional and was challenged in court. The ruling favoured the RIDE program because statistics were used in court that proved the RIDE program saved lives. So every Christmas and other times, the police can stop any car randomly to check if drivers are drunk.

I think one of the differences with RIDE is that they stop every car when they set up a road block. And I believe that is what makes it ok

otherwise police need a reason to stop you. Speeding, weaving on the road, license expired....... OPP cars are equiped with computers so as the license plate flashes by, the computer reads it, and pulls up outstanding warrants. But it isn’t a random stop

There was an interesting column the other day about Ontario. Basically saying, they attempted to do all the things the science advisory panel wanted. and That they wanted the federal sick benefit to improve. Which it didn’t in the budget. The column also noted that only PEI and I think BC have provincially mandated sick time

until the federal government gets vaccines here, we are sitting ducks for variants and will have long term restrictions.
I wonder how many summer camps will close this year forever.

Despite that, the courts ruled for the RIDE program, against those who brought it to court saying that it infringed on their rights.
