And I think "essential" is becoming a rather "stretchy" word.
Lots of things go into providing health care. Water, power, etc.
Transportation to get there, unless we're all going to switch to ambulance - which there wouldn't be enough. There are a lot of ripple effects if we start saying a lot of infrastructure related things aren't essential.

And with medical care - it gets fuzzy, a fair bit of it is 'essential' until someone decides you need to isolate.

BE OUTDOORS - and of course with proper distancing, masking, hygiene etc. Be in a small group OUTDOORS if you must - like talk to your neighbour over the fence, or on the sidewalk - distanced & masked. But do not go indoors if with others. And this means really - don't go indoors ANYWHERE you don't absolutely have to - these variants are so extremely contagious.

This has been a major part of the message in BC for the past year. I appreciate the simplicity of the message.

I don't like government determining what is essential or not essential. I would rather see limits put on the numbers of people going into stores. My husband went to Costco today and said it was very crowded. That's not cool. Just limit how many can be in a store, encourage curbside pickup etc and let people determine what is essential.

There's a lot of people not getting medical problems managed - because they are avoiding going in unless absolutely necessary. I think the messaging is too black or white.
Doctors are calling for people to at the very least call, but there are cases where telehealth isn't enough.

Does that mean you never had limits on people going into stores? Or did they lift them?
NS eased up some, but they are still counting, at least in high volume times. Still having the one hour senior’s shopping before everyone else.

For the short time stores were open here they had limits on numbers. And it is a formula , so many square feet divided by ......... most small stores that seemed to mean the two clerks and two customers. Sometimes one customer. Drug store was 20 people including staff.........

but then you get a big mall or a big store like a Walmart. A Cosco. Thsee are massive places so the numbers allowed inside, by the formulas, is huge

our county has gone into a really strict lockdown. We are no where at the level of Toronto or Barrie or London. But be8g more rural, with small hospitals I think they can’t take a chance that things could spiral. And they are reporting the spread is related to outdoor gatherings over the nice Easter weekend. The health unit also has said that people infected are not being truthful about their contacts and it is taking longer to follow up.

we were going to walk the golf course with friends Saturday. But have cancelled in order to comply with the new orders.

see no one
dont leave your home
all trails closed
all businesses have voluntarily closed except grocery, drugs, hardware. And the message is only go if you absolutely have to. (running low on milk, may have to switch to black coffee)
assume you are infected and contact no one

Reading today that Ontario may institute a no travel rule. At times our European cousins were not allowed to travel more than 1 km from home. Maybe coming to us soon. We are at 4700 cases. Projected to 18,000. Daily

They seemed to have lifted some of the limits. Either that, and more likely, some stores aren't enforcing limits.

I think I heard a catch phrase from BC - Fewer faces, more spaces :-) or something along that line.

We too had strict limits a while ago - but more recently I have not seen entry restricted (ie no lines outside) at any big stores I've been by, or even at the LCBO across the road from me - they used to have security guard at the door - but haven't seen that for quite some time.

Last time I went to our No Frills the guy out front sanitizing carts was also using a clicker to count people going in and out so they seemed to be at least to monitor how many were in the store. Haven't had lineups around here of late, though.

Yup, done at the grocery store (Giant Tiger) as well and has been for a while.
My smalltown store doesn't, but, there aren't many at it at any time.

Beside those in the Atlantic region, shopping here has probably been the least restricted and I don't go in! I've been trying to be cautious as recommended, between my health issues and medical appointments. I do find a little funny that areas that are supposedly 'locked down' are the ones with posters commenting about shopping in person. Not criticism, just funny how it worked out. Chemguy does some shopping, mostly places like Home Depot and a local pet fish store and he doesn't give me details probably to avoid an argument of me telling him he just needs to do it all online/curbside. There are times he feels like he needs to see the items (I get that) and other times he feels like he can't wait (I would disagree minus 1 trip). I might send him into Canadian Tire too depending on what can be purchased online, they don't always offer everything - why I do not know. *sigh* I guess actually I should be the one if I feel like I can do the lifting as I at least have had 1 vaccine dose, he hasn't.

The grocery store we use most has someone sanitizing carts at the entrance. They also wipe down the belt between customers. They don't seem to limit the number of people entering anymore. It was quite busy the last time I was there

I know officially there are limits to capacity, not sure how closely that's followed. I do know some small local places are following that, easier to control when it's pretty much 1 household and employees allowed in at a time.

As of today, stores that are allowed to open (grocery, pharmacies, and the grocery and pharmacy sections of big boxes) are limited to 25% of rated capacity. All other stores can only do curbside.

Religious services, including weddings and funerals, are limited to 10 whether indoors or out, but drive-in is allowed it seems.

Even outdoors, you can only gather with immediate household and one person from outside your household who lives alone. (I honestly can't see the bylaw inspectors and cops having the time to really, seriously enforce this but we shall see).

Our health unit gives us max capacity. It's 87, including all staff, in our little store. Boss actually caps it at 80. But it can still happen as it did early this afternoon, when a not-overfull store looks briefly a bit awful because everyone headed to the checkouts (all 7 were open) at once. So when that happens, it's all hands on deck parceling groceries so that we ease the pressure.

That was like here over Christmas, schools were open before we were allowed to have outdoor gatherings, even with being spaced out.
