Covid 19 Vaccine

I'm waiting for my "invitation letter" to get my vaccine. Apparently BC doesn't know there's technology and that they no longer need to rely on paper letters and Canada Post.
I saw a notification based on age. I phoned and booked. A week later I got a letter informing me that 'because I have pre existing conditions I can apply for my shot'. Problem is they couldn't offer me one until two weeks after I'm already done! Needless to say I plan to take the earliest opportunity. I did phone, mostly so I could ask when my brain injured son would be called in. Bah humbug - severe brain injuries only count if the person is in a care home of some type. At least they have now been alerted to this group of vulnerable citizens.

@BetteTheRed , it is my understanding most sdm don't have the vaccine. Only select cities in ON.
Most of them here do. They seem to be the ones who have it almost exlucsively, the next largest chain that comes to mind is Rexall (for pharmacy primarily - Walmart and Superstore would have a good number of locations too), and they don't have it here, at least not in my immediate area.

@Northwind do you get a code or something in your letter? If not I agree, book and then push to get that letter. Not sure if the 811 service can help, I find them to be quite useless most of the time.

Another friend told me that her health authority has a vaccination page on their website. I'm going to check my health authority page.

I'm a bit confused as to what to do regarding booking. I do not want to go to a mass clinic, I have safety concerns with that, the distancing laws apparently do no apply to health care facilities and masks are also being taken off when people are around others.

Some pharmacies apparently do book ahead, but it's confusing to find out which ones. I did actually end up switching pharmacies, we have multiple new independent ones / franchises of smaller chains, all walkable distance. The one I switched to the pharmacist owner actually does remember me from when she worked at the big chain.
I'm on her list for when she does get the vaccine, but no clue when that will happen.

I think for now I wait. It doesn't appear that Shopper's is booking ahead of what the province is doing. I don't know which pharmacies are.

I have been in contact with doctors already, GP is more cautious than my specialists and she wouldn't blame me if I decided to not get it. I've decided to go for one dose at least though and then reassess, unless other info comes out.

I'm on hold with the appointment line now. Here's hoping I can book an appointment. I decided to gamble. I'm in a good phase of my medication schedule to get the vaccine.

Well f***. You have to have the f***ing letter in your hand when you even book the appointment.

Maybe they will fax it to you, I know the system here loves to fax.
Sorry for the frustration, hope you can get it sorted soon. Do you know at least who sends the letter, ie. the healthcare system, a specific clinic, etc?

So, according to my health unit, I'm not eligible, but according to SDM, I am. *sigh*

Not that it matters much anymore, to me, personally, anyway. I see people outside, distanced, or with masks, for tea or dog walking. I see people at a job. I'll never get back the time I didn't get with my old guy. I am missing, a bunch, the idea of a trip down east.
