Manitoba nurse says she had adverse reaction to COVID-19 vaccine

A Manitoba nurse said she developed concerning symptoms minutes after receiving her first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

This type of thing is very frustrating, and I see multiple aspects that could be improved.
1 - There should be follow up with someone who has the best information on how to deal with this. Even if she went to a doctor, most doctors are going to respond with "I don't know" - been there, done that with other issues myself.
2 - As for if she should get a 2nd dose, considering the time frame and the difficulty to get into an allergist provinces should be setting up appointments with allergists (ideally proper immunologists) who have dealt with vaccine reactions before. This could bypass the usual referral process and the immunologists do not need to take on these patients long-term, they can handle just the short-term vaccine related stuff.
 
Expectations on a world committed to conflict ... there shall be much opposition ... and you cannot allow the total to be sated ... desire wanders!
 
Great news! Canada is now producing its own Covid mRNA vaccine. It's in it's third stage of trials , which is the last stage before being approved.
It's Quebec based Medicago and the vaccine is similar to the Moderna vaccine.

Sorry folks a few corrections...I was so excited.....it's a company called Providence based in Toronto that is producing the mRNA vaccine within Canada. Medicago is in Quebec but it's vaccine is of another technology and will be produced in North Carolina.

I have to calm down when I read such good news! I'm so glad that Canada may not have to rely on other countries eventually if things go well.

I liked seeing that today. I was watching something last night where they were talking about the Pfizer vaccine not coming. It really struck me that we are dependent on others for the vaccine. That could make it harder for us.
 
I saw that if things go well, it will be available in 2022. Hopefully we aren't actually waiting around by then, but if it turns into a seasonal thing hopefully that helps.

Canada scrambling for smaller syringes ahead of expected Pfizer vaccine label change

Pfizer and BioNTech will cut back on how many vials of COVID-19 vaccine they send Canada this year if the federal health regulator agrees to change the vaccine label to say every vial contains six doses instead of five.

I'm not totally understanding this, it may have helped to see the difference in the syringes.
The volume used per dose isn't changing. Overshoots tend to be a smaller volume with a smaller syringe,, but if we're comparing 0.3 mL to 0.5 mL syringes, I don't think it would make that much of a difference (I've used 3 mL and 5 mL for 3 mL injections).
With the first doses being given here it was mentioned that 6 doses were possible from each vial, was that only with these special syringes then?

I also hope if there is a shortage, they consider using a different syringe for the 6th doses from each vial, where the entire volume of the vial needs to be used.
 
The difference is in the dead space inside the actual needle attachment. The needle has a plastic hub that attaches to the syring, different colours usually for different sizes. Medication stays in that hub. So if you can buy needles with a smaller hub attaching to the syringe then less medication is wasted.

of course we have known this for a month or so, as hospitals in the USA reported they could get an extra dose per vial. But only now is our government trying to buy these very hard to get needles. Honestly. Who is in charge in ottawa

I think the shortage is worldwide....not just Canada.
 
Yes. But our shortage is because we didn’t try to buy them. Everything Trudeau is doing is weak, late or absent. It is constant reassurances and no action. He going to make travel changes. Soon. After months of reassurance that travel isn’t an issue.
If I hear him say one more time that we have some of the toughest restrictions I am going to scream at my tv. Arriving and being asked to nicely stay home is not tough restrictions
 
And as a side note. That article about the couple who flew to Yukon to get a vaccine. Honestly. Big city people who have no idea how small towns work. Pretending they work there. What absolute jerks

and the picture they keep putting in the paper looks like a man with his young daughter, not wife

There is more than a 20 year age difference between them ...
A big part of the problem there too is it sounded like anyone was eligible for the vaccine living there. It being a fairly remote area, yet a border town was mentioned in one of the things I read. Sounded like a need to have some rules in place to avoid vaccine tourism. Yes, there was a lie about working in a hotel, but it sounded like that wasn't necessary to be eligible, the rules broken were they didn't quarantine when arriving, they went to get vaccinated right away, without a quarantine exemption - assuming reported facts are correct.

Sounds judgmental considering all that we don't know by ... dark scheming! Thus perspective from the ephemeral, flighty side ... I'm winging debell!

He probably didnt try to buy them because Canada doesnt just use those types of syringes but the US does. And Canada was just recently made aware from the US that using the dead locks gives you more doses per vial.
