Good morning everyone!

It's a cool Manitoba morning in my neck of the woods, -26C. But the sun is shining, and the wind isn't awful. It has been very mild here, but this is the turn. And it is supposed to be cool like this for almost a week. We had fresh fluffy snow yesterday, and today, as I look out my living room window, the fresh fallen snow is glimmering with diamonds as the sun hits it. I should go out and scoop them up and make millions selling them on ebay :).

In this month of January I have had a list of 6 things that I must accomplish in the next two weeks or so. So far I have stroked two off my list. One of them is not a very daunting task (I send Valentine's Day cards to my family members to remind them that I love them) - that won't be too difficult if I just sit down and do it. (The only difficult part is that I am looking for a quote on "love", but not romantic love - just love - and I haven't found one I want to use yet). The other 3 duties are more daunting - preparing for leading a worship service in February, doing the work of the Nominating Committee and working on a project for a gift for a friend. And I'm not feeling very creative today.

Hubby is outside with snow blower cleaning up the snow from the last two days. And I'm trying to force myself to sit down and get busy.

How about the rest of you . . . anything you've got on your "to do List", that you are trying to accomplish these days?

Hmm . . . could be hurtful, Seeler.

On the other hand a troublemaker might enjoy racking up the Don't Likes. :D

I know, Paradox. Sometimes I am nasty. And sometimes I get so fed up with hurtful, insulting, patronizing, condemning, or ignorant remarks (and I'm not talking about any particular person here) that I would like to hit the 'don't like' button.

And you could hit the 'don't like' button on my posts when you find I am getting snarky.

I am a member on a site that publishes stories and instead of "like" and "dislike" for stories the board has a 5 point scoring system. Normally, any story that passes editing gets at least a 4 from most readers. However, the odd ill-tempered sort who dislikes a particular author or genre or something will go through and score 1s or 2s on everything just to get a thrill from seeing the average scores drop. The owner is pretty good about recognizing when this happens and has the board's programmer remove the errant scores but it is still an f'ing nuisance.

Dislikes can be used the same way (e.g. let's say an evangelical sort took an intense dislike to me so started disliking everything I posted without even bothering to read the post), so I tend to favour having a "like" button and leaving it at that (and that is what I am advocating for that board). If you don't like it, don't click "like".

We have a Report button.

That's not quite the same as a Dislike button, though. Dislike buttons just mean someone disagrees with what you said and don't bring the mods down on you like a ton of bricks.

I'm second in Likes, and first in Reports. I'm probably more proud of the latter.

The board rebel. Every board has to have one but it usually isn't an admin.:D

Most reports are just people who are mad at you and have nothing to respond with, so they play the "offended" card.

Hate to tell you this @chansen but I think you have toned down quite a bit on WC2. I don't believe I have Reported you a single time here.
That's probably more your growth than mine.

After years of being a game server admin and forum moderator handling complaints on the forum, the ratio that seems to hold true is 80% of non-spam-related reports are just people bellyaching. I don't expect many forums are that different.

Compared to the original WC we seem to have less moderation here. Or it is less visible at any rate.

Does that encourage less Reporting, I wonder?

There was a dust-up here a while ago that I might have Flagged on the original WC. Didn't see any need to Report it here.

Interesting.
