I just saw this quote on Twitter: "There's a hidden disease in this world called control; not allowing another person to be as they truly and deeply are. "

That's a valid question. Let me restate. In real life I've never met anyone who I could identify as being transgendered based on their appearance, nor have I met someone who self-identified to me as being transgendered.
Jae ..... I will make you this offer as I do have some visits to the Toronto area coming up in the next few months.
I offer to meet you in person for a lunch/dinner/coffee .... whatever....
I also invite you to bring along anyone you like .... perhaps other leaders from your church.

One of the favorite pastimes of institutions that work to save souls ... speaking endlessly about life's greatest mystery ... psyche (soul?) as nobody appears capable of finding that damn thing that is as illusive as tiny dark seeds (wee spots or dots in the cosmos?) that are saved for the great harvester ... and then the fulmination begins ... or is that fermenting of all the collected thoughts that must be integrated into the bier ... as it explodes the Jared ... scattering another wave of thoughts that the soulless will miss due to the fact that then didn't get none ... or lost it in an emotional struggle ...

I think the Celts had it over the Anglos ... they came up with fire water ... that made men have visions of 'eLLe as she saw the effect of eL Mos image ... a man in a rant? Some people are like that no matter how much they drink ... others take it a Levite ... and float off during the relaxation period before the fluid hits too hard ...

Control ... freaks that were known as hedge hogs at one time and they spread into the market place we take as true loch, stock and bare eL ... pickled pork bel lies ... or are they just legend?

Christ used one of those as a real porker of a myth ... parable?

Thank you for the invitation Rita. That's nice of you. I would be open to that, however right now is just not the time. I'm freer in the summer once school goes on break. Perhaps we and others could meet up then.

They can't have you, Rita. One of the worst things that could happen to Jae's church, is for the members to meet a likable transgendered person and get to know them a little. Especially the young members.

Just like gays and lesbians coming out in the last 20 years or so was a blow to them, because now their young members had gay friends. And how can you teach a teenager that Jesus wants his friend to be celibate and miserable, and expect him to look at you as anything less than a monster?

There are fewer transgendered people. It will take longer. But the religious nutcases are not going to invite you in, or, if they do, it will be a strategic error. They don't want to look hateful to their younger members. They will always have excuses.

They won't have me chansen ..... my purpose for going is not to become part of them.....
My reason to go is to share Leelah's story ..... to let them know they are hurting the little ones.
My goal is to open the possibility of sharing and discussion.
An even loftier goal is to inspire some honest fair minded sober research on their part ... a door to some understanding.
I want to go to help stop the hurting of the little ones and their families....
The first steps to freedom ........
And I will find a way ..... I just have to.

It's not that they won't let you become a member. I don't think they'd let you speak, except to be mostly on the receiving end of a sermon. I hope I'm wrong. I don't think I am.

I've never heard a sermon at my church that was targeted as an attack at a particular individual or group of individuals.

I'm guessing you've also never heard one that is accepting of transgendered individuals. It would be brave of you to take Rita up on her offer and begin the process of scheduling her in on a day and time when the entire congregation would be expected to be there.

Frankly - that's unreasonable. I have no way of guaranteeing that, "the entire congregation" would show up!

You're right in your guess, but then I've never heard a sermon that directly mentioned transgendered people at all.

You could certainly invite Rita and see how many of your congregation comes. Don't write it off.

I have a fairly good understanding of the workings of a church and the responsibility for what is presented to a congregation.
That is why my offer is to meet with the church leadership. An achievable goal that opens a dialogue and makes it possible for them to take care of their responsibility to the congregation in regards to a speaker.
Jae ...... I look forward to meeting with you and whoever you find to invite. This includes leaders from yur church and your school. Thank you for considering that ..... a very good start.

Can't recall mentioning people from my school, and the leadership of my church would decline your invitation.

Quite the fair minded church if this is so isn't it Jae???? ..... please ... prove this so .... ask them .... for sometime this summer....
Please ask.... thank you.....
I am hoping your suspicions are not correct.....

Don't be disingenuous. I wrote "expected" to show up. Not a meeting in an empty building with a couple of people.

Notice also how we went from:

Sadly, that is their best course of action, not to allow a transgendered person to speak or answer questions with the congregation. They know that allowing their members to meet Rita can only backfire.
