Okay, that's not actually talking about oxygen itself, but about concentrators. A concentrator is a medical device that filters O2 from room air to a 99.9% purity. We use them for patients who aren't heavily mobile (though there are portable ones now), including most of our longterm care patients. Concentrators have been in short supply for a while now so this is not news to those of us in the biz. My boss and the supply chain coordinator have been grabbing any that they can lay their hot little hands on.

I'm not sure if I didn't catch the details on the news, or if they didn't specify concentrators. I just picked up on 'oxygen shortage' from the tv.

Well, that article says concentrators in some places and just oxygen in others. I suspect it's confusion about what is meant. There is plenty of oxygen, it's the machinery we use to concentrate it (by removing the other gases) and supply it to the patient that is in short supply.

Yeah, I caught it on the news on tv first though, can't get the story. WHO was mentioned, so pretty sure it's what was meant - not sure if it was just me filtering out the details or them. I did assume it to be the oxygen tanks before I looked it up - wasn't sure the specific aspect to providing full ones that was the problem.

Here‘s more research news. The link should be free to read

Human genetics provides clues about mysteries of coronavirus
DNA differences suggest why some people suffer much more severely from disease than others

I just get asked to subscribe.

Curses. I’ll provide the links in the article. Maybe tomorrow, I can excerpt it.

I‘m too tired to do it tonight.

Carriers are required ... either for truths ... or for alternate NU's ... beware of Leuce Noia!

There may be some force involved in who gets the advantage to carry on ... while some of us volunteer for discrete denial ... and than we're gone!

If dexamethasone works then there’s less need for oxygen equipment for the longer term. They want you to be very scared. I’ve never seen anything like it. I mean we’ve been living for decades in a world with enough nukes to annihilate the entire planet several times over, which is in the control of a few rotating elected and unelected world leaders....and that doesn’t scare people nearly as much as it should. Why the fk hasn’t disarmament been worked on with emergency priority? But covid has people panicking. I think they want people hiding, even where the risk is low, hiding from covid, not protesting or questioning any big issues. The more we’re home watching TV, the better off “they” are. “They’re” going to tell us what to worry about. The super-rich have done well since covid began.

It looks like we merely need to look south of us to see whether "they" are just trying to scare us into hiding. Plus, we are not being forced to hide away. We are just being advised to modify our behaviour in order to stop a virus from wreaking havoc.

On another note, it is now evident that fairly significant changes can be made when the will is there.

Some psyche investigator stated years ago that humans lodge some death wish ... and the urge to see all else in a state of destruction ... it went viral!

Viruses do unravel DNA strands ...

Many actually have lost a fair bit. With businesses not operating as usual, plus extra costs when operating, many portifolios are down.

One of the great things about London is that we are a hub for medical research. 100 years ago, Sir Frederick Banting had the initial idea for his insulin work here before bringing it to fruition at University of Toronto (celebrations at Banting House are coming up soon). And now it's COVID-19.

Short version: Researchers at the Lawson Research Institute have isolated the 6 cytokines most involved in the infamous cytokine storms that kill so many of Covid's victims. They are now working on ways to block them while still allowing the rest of the immune system to do its job against the coronavirus.

The Lawson Research Institute (and the nearby Robarts) are both closely affiliated with Western University and our local teaching hospitals. The work that comes out of there is fascinating and, yep, life-saving.

There are 4 people in Alberta in the hospital, under 30, with no known pre-existing conditions. At this point no one knows they won't have a severe case if they get it.
