In the PC chain, Galen Weston has varying degrees of control over managers and franchisees (the NF chain). My boss is all about safety. He keeps an eye on the door. During really slow periods (not as predictable as before), he just keeps an eye out. But as soon as there's any suggestion of "busy-ness", there's staff on the door. If you let too many people in, you end up with unfixable congestion at the checkouts.
 
Well I guess with all our complaining or not.....we should remember that this disease is so misunderstood.
Here are all of the most unusual symptoms doctors are now seeing.....it's not just a respiratory illness anymore.

They have been including non-respiratory symptoms in the symptoms to get a COVID-19 test for a while now.

I try to mostly ignore a fair bit of Trump. I feel like that was nothing compared to this though:

Yes I'm aware, but these symptoms are all over the place aren't they?
Sometimes it makes me wonder if all the hospitals are being kept up to date on all this information.....thinking about small town hospitals that may be the closest to where one lives if it develops into something that needs immediate attention....is every hospital in the loop with recent findings?

I'm sure they are. Covid-19 has been a focal point everywhere.

In the case of the pregnant woman, pregnancy can trigger reactions, obviously. My mom has an autoimmune condition that was triggered when she was pregnant with me and I was born 3 months premature. So her immune system reacted to something benign, her hormones, allergy to something? And attacked her own body. It was not until then that she even knew she had the autoimmune issue and predisposition to the illness it caused.

Another thing is - correlation is not causation. Some of the coexisting illnesses could've already been present, unknowingly, before the people got covid.

They should be matching the province. Memos and things like that go out.
I know it's not always done though. I would hope with this it's a high enough priority that things aren't slipping through too much.

There will be a delay in findings vs. practices for sure. It does take some time to verify and then adjust protocols.

I think I heard it took some time to adjust their thinking about using ventilators too soon....
But it's been my experience that some small town doctors aren't always as up to date as their counterparts in the bigger cities.
 
Rosie DiManno wrote an interesting piece in The Star this week - on a U of T researcher who's working on a cure for COVID - rather than a vaccine. Sounded like he's very confident of its efficacy, so much so that he's hoping the 'monkey trials' stage can be skipped. Will be interesting to follow that. Unfortunately her article is open to subscribers only, so I'm not linking it here ... more and more of that these days too.

At least in Nova Scotia. The info system here has been exceptional. Daily updates in the Health system emmails as well as on the radio for the public. As of today, the criteria for testing has been widened to include those unusual symptoms of vomiting, weird coloured toes, extreme fatigue- I forgot what else, but it puts the level for testing quite low, you just have to have two of those symptoms. NS has been doing a lot of tests overall. Right now, we only have one new case a day but still one or more deaths a day- all in the same nursing home.
 
It seems to me now general requirement at discharge from hospital to nursing homes or for someone getting home care that they have to have a negative covid test in the two days before.
Germany is going to test all employees of hospitals and care facilities no matter if symptoms or not.

Germany's unlisted CureVac said its experimental coronavirus vaccine was shown to trigger an immune response in animals when given a low dose and the biotech firm was looking at carrying out its first human trials in June.

Which group? Would be interesting to see what info is up about it.
 
Germany has been easing the restriction. They have a good health system. Rules are still to keep a distance, have sanitizer available. The first cases are mow showing up. A Baptist congregation has 40 new cases after having a service despite social distancing. A restaurant owner had an opening ” test drive” evening resulting in seven new cases, including him, and consequently 50 contact people now having to go in quarantine.
German officials say this was to be expected.
The curve is not really flattening in some areas, but they are going ahead with more opening, probably for economic and political reasons. Lots of demonstrations in Berlin every weekend.
 
We are opening up here in BC. It will be interesting to see how it goes. We're in a good position to do this. There are fewer and fewer cases each day. I believe too that they have a good plan for contact tracing and testing so outbreaks can be contained. I'm concerned about the region where I lived up north. They may not be taking this as seriously as they should. I hope they don't have to learn the hard way.
