I have a roommate. One of the issues that has come up before is she flushes things that shouldn’t be flushed,or flushes too much at once and has clogged the toilet.

Today, just a few minutes ago, the toilet water level would not go down. I only went pee. It looked clean but there are germs, I realize. So I got out the plunger and I felt a tiny drop of water splash me in the eye. I immediately stopped, washed my hands with soap and water, cupped my hands and rinsed my eyes. Then I got out my visine I remembered I had...not a proven intervention but I thought maybe if I doused my eyes with visine chemicals it would be stronger than plain water - and if then rinsed again, it would rinse any potential bugs out or kill them...it was just an immediate thought, on the fly. So I rinsed again. And I stood a bit further back as best I could and unclogged the toilet. Then washed my hands again. Thoughts? Advice?
It has actually been found out that on average a kitchen sink has more germs than a toilet.

That doesn’t sound very good. The politicians have to realize that they have to cooperate. It will place stress on rural hospitals (likely already in bad shape). The BC govt seems uninterested in the deteriorating medical system. My daughter, a surgeon in Edmonton, said B.C. pays its doctors poorly. Alberta is much better according to her.

Bob Zimmer is a twerp. He's only interested in guns it seems. He was an arrogant dick when Harper was in. He's marginally more humble as part of the opposition party. He's been criticized for his boneheaded comments about FN people and others. I know tell us how you really feel..... ;) He's getting some fallout from this.

I've worked in both the BC and Alberta health systems. Doctors are paid better in AB and I suspect treated better. BC has six health authorities. I suspect you'll see variations between the different authorities. I was not impressed with Northern Health, especially in the Peace Region. Island Health seems good. I know they've had their issues over the years. I've gotten good service from them. Nanaimo has an excellent surgical team and a reasonable number of doctors and other professionals. Of course there's room for improvement.

If covid explodes here in the next few weeks I think we can lay the blame at BC Ferries' doorstep. They knew the risk, they could've made and enforced stronger interim policies by choice and they chose profit first. They could've restricted travel to Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands to residents only and travel to the mainland, to essential travel

I agree. They are saying they have no power to prevent people from travelling. If that's the case then the province needs to grant them that power and the staffing/expertise to enact it.

I read someone on Gabriola Island who was really upset because they only have one 1/2 time doctor there. It's a really small community.

Gabriola is almost a suburb of Nanaimo. They have access to Nanaimo medical services. Still, there's no reason for the extra bodies on the island.

Wow -you guys did lots of chatting while I wasn't checking. I just read pages and pages and pages of thoughts, comments, agreements, disagreements, detours etc..

What can I add? I've been reading (elswhere mostly) really strong criticism of the way this has been handled. Me? I figure our 'leaders' did as well, or better than many others. Sure, some things could have happened faster, but we quickly forget that absolutely no-one knew anything for sure!

So nice to see @EasternOrthodox joining in again. Please accept my wave from far away!

Odd ... just watched a video of Obama speaking a number of years ago about the need to quiet partisan extremes in order to deal wit situations like pandemics. Yet are the extremists likely to concede if they have to give up that urge for their private winning drive?

Sort of shatters that western freedom for total freedom of equity if you can only see yourself as a winner!

I give up ... times for great sacrifice with the exceptions of those that disagree with the concept of charing anything ... body, mind or essence ... only in unconscious activity ... the gift of blind passions? Gives one a break ... four thoughts ... In some sense those characters continue to live among us In some sense those characters continue to live among us .... ꭍ(team)? It is denied by the autonomous persona! Thus the great alone ... that sometimes we sense here in antisocial LANs ...

Maybe it was Galiano. There are several and I get those two mixed up. There's Saltspring, Denman, Galiano, Gabriola, Hornby, Texada, Maine...and I'm not sure if I'm forgetting any. Saltspring is the largest of the Gulf Islands, with its own small hospital. The others are tiny communities.

Given the uncertain circumstances ... what can a person expect ... yet so many don't believe there is anything they don;t know best about. Noname circle ... but very determinate!

Saw that Obama video too - 2014 & he predicted we would see potential pandemic within 5 years ...

Interesting to note the swings between wanting the government to permit more freedoms and wanting the government to impose stricter limitations. Hard to know sometimes. Pretty much no-win position for government in many situations.

Either way, none of those places need extra bodies right now.

It's dependent on situation and circumstance. Vacationers are not needed to keep the curve flat here...they are jerks to encroach on small communities with no medical resources and limited essentials, and places they don't need to visit (nothing to do in Victoria and Nanaimo right now anyway and smaller places up island are saying "no" to visitors right now too - lots of tourist destinations and hotels closed) but since our numbers 'were' low, and we have been quite diligent, it would've been nice to have had more restrictions lifted for locals. I thought BC Ferries was seriously limiting travel to essential, not leisure, travel. Apparently they chose the long weekend to throw caution to the wind.

I've heard of locals in small towns, refusing to serve tourists in their small groceries and take-out places. Making it clear they are not welcome at this time. Something like telling your neighbour who wants to pop over for a tea, with their whole family, without knocking, that you are indisposed, come back later. There are signs, "please stay away" at some ferry docks. I wonder how many turned around and took the ferry right back. Inhospitable, perhaps. But this virus is a random pillager.

I would suggest though that they are not “tourists”. They are property owners. So they pay taxes and support the community that way. Not sure you can stop someone from arriving at their own house

our small town is trying to cope too. All the weekenders and skiers and cottages are here. But they pay taxes same as I do so have a right to sleep in their own beds

that is different than the people who are renting on AirBNB and trying to escape

now our cousins in Croatia are being kept to where they live. The address in your drivers license. Somewhat easier to police there as the first two letters on the license plate is your home town

ie If you live in Zagreb your license plate is something like. ZA4563

also the cousins who live on an island are only leaving with permission. Quarantine when they return and in,y people who live on the island are allowed on the ferries.

I hope the government gives them the power to turn away recreational travellers.

There are weekenders here right now. Most seem to be behaving and keeping distance. I've seen several sites with people just sitting out enjoying the sunshine. I've also though, heard of people gathering at a site in a way that suggests they are not following the directives. :(

Apparently, a lot of Alberta plates seen aboard the ferries.

There are people from other provinces on the island. Many have been here for the winter and are wondering how/whether to get home. I hope there were none heading this way this weekend. Sadly, I imagine there was.

That's part of the issue isn't it. I don't know how they can address it well.
