I want testing. I want accurate testing of everyone and clearer numbers. I am angry they shut the world down without an accurate picture of how many have it or have had it. If so many more people have had it than is being recorded, and it was assumed to be the common cold or flu at the time, then the death toll and death risk might be very low, lower than for other similar illnesses - and this isolation exercise, suspect.

Kimmio I believe that people are still concerned about all the issues they were concerned about before. They are still writing about it, donating money, making plans. But we all have different issues we promote

but, as Maslow teaches us, we have a hierarchy of needs. And so currently a great deal of focus is on the need to be safe and not transmit disease

the other needs are not forgotten

i agree that this type of situation has the potential to result in despots grabbing power. Again, I am not sure that the world has the energy to focus on that

we get lots of deaths in a year. We seldom get many hundred in one city in one day. Not from one issue. These deaths are pushing other things to the back burner for now. Not forever

but those not directly working in this are still doing what they do. My niece who does social work with eating disorders is still doing that. My niece who does social work with homeless is still doing that. My nephew who is an orthopedic resident is now one of a few surgeons designated for that in his city. While others are sent over to icu. Cops are still patrolling the streets It they are all taking new precautions for their own safety

babies are still being born. Banks are still loaning money and trying to keep finances together. Truckers are still driving

this is a big issue. I get that week by week you change your mind on whether we should be doing what we are doing. we collectively, in our country and the globe , are trying to help people survive. So that hospitals can still deal with car accidents and with strokes and heart attacks and all the other things that take us to hospital

after this is all over, when we get back to work and restaurants reopen there will be lots of opportunity to say whether the government was too slow, whether they helped enough, whether they wasted time and resources, whether they were on the ball, whether they took away too many freedoms....... and they will either pay a price for that and lose the next election or they will be congratulated

You doctor would test you if it was needed, most times they can diagnose by symptoms which is probably more reliable than a flu test.
Like I said, I have never had a flu test to confirm exactly what type of virus I had. I've had the flu or some similar bugs before most definately. I have no idea what strain for sure though. That's my point.

They are recording deaths of people with other illnesses who also happen to test positive for covid, as covid related deaths. Somebody could have COPD, the common cold, bacterial pneumonia and covid all at once, and die from the combination, and it would be considered a covid death.

So does everyone.....they also want more masks, gloves, gowns, ventilators......again, we all know that. Right now the tests are limited because what has already been mentioned is that there are not enough so without the tests you use more caution on the side of error...and that means isolation right now.

Why are there not enough? This has been known about since December.

Probably doesn't matter because there are no antibiotics for a flu virus unless it develops into pneumonia. The flu shot is hit or miss sometimes too and it's probably the best defense they've got. But they don't always target the right flu every year. Testing isn't the whole answer.

Many times there are multi-factors with a death.
If someone wouldn't have died at that time but did because they had COVID-19 I think it's fair to say that's a COVID-19 death.

What won't be counted is those who die without COVID-19 but would have survived without the extra strain going on.

As long as there are next elections.

We don't know in the example I came up with, which illnesses were the "worst", most symptomatic ones for them. They may not have died if they hadn't had bacterial pneumonia and a common cold either.

Because they'd never seen this new virus before....how would they know what the tests should be testing for? They didn't even know the mode of transmission completely. You think 3 months is enough to prepare for this, we've all been learning as we go along......and still are.
But I do agree they should have been prepared with gloves, masks, ventilators......that's a crime.

Somethings rotten in Denmark. And everywhere.

That said...I'm following the rules.

The same is true for flu deaths. It's rare for people to die from just the flu alone. It's the major factor though, I think the same is true for COVID-19. We don't see so many suddenly so sick typically.

I think that testing after the fact will tell us a lot about the distribution of the disease

at this point it downst actually matter if the death rate is 10% or 2 %. It just matters that hospitals are being over run with patients, many who die. And we are trying to stop that happening

Hand washing makes sense. Social distancing makes sense (People should read the actual WHO recommendations - they don't recommend a police state)...it seems logical to me to be skeptical and questioning considering the scale of the measures. It seems illogical not to be skeptical and questioning.

We do. In care homes all the time. With flu outbreaks and norovirus outbreaks and community acquired pneumonia.
