Went to see "The Imitation Game" with my oldestson the other night. We both quite enjoyed it. Good period piece for war/historians. Good tech for geeks among us. Good exploration of life when homosexuality was a crime. Based on a true story of an injustice that was played out to a brilliant mind. Plus....it has Benedict Cumberbatch.

It's on my "to see" list for sure. Cumberbatch as Turing sounds like a major win to me.

definitely a good movie.

Also on the list to see this Christmas are:
The Hobbit (yeah, I know, some of you don't like Jackson's stringing it out)
The Gambler
American Sniper

maybe
Unbroken
Into the Woods

Notification - I do not read posts that have deliberately misspelled words. (I say 'deliberately' because I do struggle with some posts that are difficult to understand because of the spelling and grammar mistakes that I don't believe are deliberate. I make a few myself.)

Yes, we're going to see the final Hobbit movie in the next week. It's pretty much a family tradition now to see a Jackson orc-army extravaganza over the holidays.

Did you mean for this to go here Seeler? I don't know what you're referring to in this thread, it seemed out of place.

Christmas Day someone set up a laptop to play the Interview on the big TV.
It wasn't the greatest movie of all time or anything, but enjoyable if you like Seth Rogen's type of humour.

We went to see the final installment of The Hobbit, and there was no resounding "that was amazing".
I think we were all slightly disappointed, expecting more.
It was a good movie, but, it wasn't great. It did feel that it was stretched out. Should have been 2 (or even 1) awesome movie, rather than 3 , with a not so great ending.

Correct. Given that he had one slender volume to deal with, compared to the 6/3 books, in excess of 1000 pages of LOTR, I have been puzzled since he started as to why he chose three. Even good directors make dumb decisions, I suppose, particularly where there's lots of money involved.

Every year for my birthday I've gone with family and friends to see a movie. It started way back with the original animated 101 Dalmations. For next year's movie I've chosen The Imitation Game - so it's good to read your positive review here Pinga.

Sometimes I march to a different drummer Just finished watching Brave-the disney scottish movie about Merida.
My verdict-not as good as Frozen

Wow, just got back from The Nightcrawler. Excellent movie. Caution: violent/disturbing. Potential academy award winner. Commentary on Americnn news (if you sit in US hotels as much as I do, you will know what morning news channels are like....ugh...I so miss CBC when on the road)

aboot US news -- an outsider, Charlie Brooker did an expose/tour on US news, noting the differences between British & US -- and Canada has a bit of both. yay to BS surfing/spelunking!

(enjoy very muchly listening to CBC radio over the holy daze -- many neet & inneresting things, like chatting with friends...my sweetie discovered she really likes listening to CBC french...)

(When I first saw this movie listed - I was excited - because I thought maybe they had given a solo film to the X-Men character.)

Conan O'Brien had the best comment. People who watch Fox tend to be conservative, people who watch MSNBC tend to be liberal and people who CNN tend to think that no plane ever lands safely.

You, too, eh? Though my thought was more "that's an odd one to choose for a solo movie".

Nightcrawler was one of my favourite characters in the X-Men comics - so I hoped for a solo film. Actually - I felt they were going to make a solo film for each of the major X-Men characters -ala Origins -- Wolverine. There have been too many Wolverine movies.

Watching an odd movie now, The Homesman. It's the story of a woman who sets off to take 3 mentally broken off the prairies to a town.
