Wow, what a storm that was. Glad to hear you made it through. Our weekend wasn't great on the snow front but nothing like that. Worst part was the snow plow pile at the end of the driveway freezing overnight, which made for a fun morning yesterday.
 
Ugh, lots of appointments this week
My hematologist put in a referral separate to my internist for hepatology. I have an appointment tomorrow, so I am glad that is being done quickly at least but this is a lot of me to deal with, I was already feeling a bit overloaded with appointments. My other appointment isn't until the end of Feb. My hematologist did call me on Friday, so I was expecting to hear something this week, but was expecting at least 24 hours notice before the appointment.
 
Quite a challenging few days for you and your province revjohn. My guess is you have some sore muscles from dealing with the white stuff.
 
Chemguy was supposed to be out of town - taking off right after work and wasn't sure if it would be 2 nights. He was able to rearrange things and I'm glad for that. I would typically be comfortable going to something like this hepatologist appointment myself, but not with how things were handled, there's just way too much that was done wrong for me to feel up to doing it alone, catching all the info myself, etc. Plus the appointment is early and the gastroenterology department has their own building, they aren't in the hospital which means going to a parkade on the side of campus I usually avoid going down, the crappy air quality and then having the rheumatologist appointment later (and I screwed up earlier on his credentials, he is a real rheumatologist I think I was comparing one site to the college and not the college to the collee like I thought) - it's a fair bit to manage even during my good days and it's been a long time since I've had a good day.

Hope the appointment gives some satisfaction, Chemgal. And thanks Redbaron for the coffee. Every single day, when I take that first sip, I say: "I love coffee!" But if you gave me coffee in the afternoon, I would hate it.

I drink tea anytime. Might vary the blend or type based on time of day. Black in the morning, green later in the day type of thing.

Hoping your appointments go well. Just curious - why is the air quality 'crappy' in the middle of winter? Seems more like that would be a summer & forest fires & pollution kind of problem.
 
I avoid the hospital parking garage at our 'big' hospital. The air is blue with exhaust fumes and makes me double up with coughing. It is also HUGE and often takes a long time to find a parking spot. I get my driver to drop me at a different entrance and make my own way through the hospital to the part where I need to be. When I am finished I return to that entrance and phone my driver. Maybe the situation is the same where ChemGal is going.
 
I don't find the garages at the hospitals here too bad. They are open at the sides so air gets in. The downtown garages in Citiplaza and the market, on the other hand, are underground and have crappy ventilation.
 
Parkades aren't too bad as they are pretty open. I do notice a bit of an effect depending on far I have to walk and the amount of running cars, but I recover quickly.
Bad air quality is actually common in the winter. It tends to be less windy, so pollution tends to just sit. People don't tend to pick up on it, there's typically no noticeable smell or haze. I do find smoke to be much more of a problem and it's more of a reactive issue in terms of asthma and congestion. Non-smokey poor air quality I don't pick up on it with wheezing or things like that, but it makes fatigue worse and can contribute to HAE attacks too although not to the same extent as smoke.

This appointment I really didn't get much info at all. Most of my time there was spent with a resident. She hasn't had a patient with hepatic adenomatosis and she had done some reading beforehand. She actually wasn't up to date with it though, I brought some papers with me including the latest one which has some great info and even though it is a case study it gives a great overview, she was happy to look through that. She was familiar with HAE which was nice though. A radiological review will be done tomorrow, so really most of the info I wanted will come from that. At least now I do have an official diagnosis and the hepatologist isn't expecting me to have issues from the adenomas anytime soon, mine are small compared to what they can get to. I still have my appointment with the other hepatologist in Feb, although I won't be surprised if they cancel that especially after reviewing things. I was told I am asymptomatic with hepatic adenomatosis, so all those symptoms must be from something else, hopefully the rheumatologist this afternoon will have some insight.
 
Sometimes it's even better to get a medical resident - they are curious and want to learn & are much more likely to read up on stuff than established physicians sometimes are. Also - good (IMO at least) to be able to raise all your questions today before they do the radiological review - that is helpful timing for getting stuff looked at during tomorrow's review. Hoping this has calmed your anxiety a bit.

Interesting to hear about air quality. We've had A LOT of wind here this year!! But our air is notably poorer than if one lives in the countryside - living in a big city is like that. Even I notice it when I've been away for a while & return home.

In general I do like the medical residents. I liked this one as well. I would have liked a bit more time with the hepatologist - I didn't get through all questions. At this point though I'm not sure what more I would have had for definitive answers even if I had been with him for a full hour. Hopefully the next time I go there I can get that.

I did notice last week I finally felt calmer about stuff overall. Getting this appointment unexpectedly did throw me a bit as I was prepared to have to just wait until near the end of Feb and with how all of this has gone I was a bit on alert to be thrown something unexpected again. Sounds weird, but I had a pretty good idea of what the plan would be for now, but was also expecting the unexpected. Every appointment with my internist was going that way for a while.

The lack of a sense of urgency from my hepatologist today was certainly reassuring. I think I can set aside the stress from the adenomatosis now. Emotionally, I have been a mess since Nov. There's some of the experiences that I have to process now that the medical aspect is semi-settled. There was so much handled inappropriately and I don't even think I've shared half of that mess here - I hope not as I don't really want it all out in a public space.

There's the disappointing side though too. Some test results are totally unrelated to my liver diagnosis - that was expected. The same with some of my symptoms, that was semi-expected although with so little info out there on this I thought that general symptoms like fatigue could have easily been skipped over. So I'm back to the beginning for getting an explanation for some stuff, minus knowing I have an appointment that I will take off for soon!
 
It is Wednesday, and we have survived! Let us celebrate with hot beverages!
