Not sure and I grew up next door in Kitchener. @Pinga is from Cambridge, perhaps she knows. It was originally three smaller towns, Galt, Preston, and Hespeler. They merged into the modern city of Cambridge in the early seventies. So perhaps it's just because each had its own churches per-amalgamation??
 
If that is the large Presbyterian church in Galt (Knox?) it has a cool story. Apparently the original Presbyterian church was up the hill and burned down. When they went to rebuild, there was a split in the congregation so there are two Presbyterian churches pretty much across from each other. A good pitcher could throw a ball from the door of one of the churches and hit the other one.

The area was settled by the Scots. There is also lots of lime stone in the area, so you see lots of old lime stone buildings. That's one thing that makes the area attractive for movie sets.

The arrival of Portuguese (50"s?) and Newfoundlanders (60's) helped to liven the place up.

We're enjoying the show so far. Locations and photography are amazing, and the plot is kinda scaring - even more if we consider the book that inspired it was written in 1985.

My hometown! It is very beautiful. I recognize all the sets from the Handmaid's Tale. New season is on Bravo.

I heard that there are more Bell Islanders in Cambridge than in all of Bell Island! It was great growing up. I had many kid friends from Newfoundland, Portugal, Germany, England during the 60's.

When we lived there it seemed like everyone we met was a Newfoundlander. They were very good people.

I've been on a Suits binge. Just when I wonder how they are going to pull one thing off, they do it and move to the next.
 
I've been watching the ten episode series Tales of The City. It is about a community in San Francisco. It's very good. I'm enjoying how they are exploring the nature of relationships and of secrets/truth in particular.

I remember the previous Maupin series of that name, which ran on PBS a couple or more decades ago. Apparently this is sort of a sequel?

I have no idea. It seems to be stand alone. It also seems to be based on a book. Lots of good info about LGBTQ rights, and especially trans rights

Yep. Both the old series and this one are based on a series of books by Armistad Maupin.

According to IMDB it is a sequel to the first series, with Olympia Dukakis and Laura Linney returning to the roles they played. The first came out in 1993.
 
I just looked up Tales of the City on Netflix and the 1993 version is there. Guess what's next on my "to watch" list. :cool:
 
I saw Tales of the City and enjoyed it immensely. I love all the wonderful actors, a few of which are Canadian. My only criticism of it is that it didn't really give balance to imagining genuine lesbian relationships and depicted them with the sensibilities of homoeroticism. "gay man gaze" if you will. (Ducks and runs)
 
I watched Aziz Ansari’s stand-up special “Right Now” ...it’s sometimes hilarious, sometimes awkward, there was some repentance - and then just generally making fun of how ridiculously messed up, but human, humans are. He is quick witted!

What a critical view for a populace that is against crisis! Especially in learning ... as we are against it ... knowledge is bad ... its in the bible! And that book is written by authority ... expect kinks!
