Evening Thoughts

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

*smile* I pop in every once in a while... but trying to keep up with so many different social media spaces can be a bit, well, fraught.

I hope everyone here is well.

We have at least one spot on Council open this spring. Wouldn't you rather be moderator of WC2? Bet the moderator of the UCCan doesn't get to ban people.

From what I hear, he'd have a lot of fun doing that.

Talking about one's self in the third person is an affectation which draws attention which can be somewhat withering. Is he sure he wants that?

How much US College Basketball is TOO much US College Basketball for one weekend?

I remember those! I think some of the movies they released may actually have been longer than the time span Laserdisc was available. (That may be an exaggeration, but not by much)

I remember betamax, not Laserdisc though. Was it before DVDs or blu-ray? And in a corner of the basement is a huge case of LPs, and I think there's a couple of 78s in there.

I grew up with 8 tracks, and my first office job used a computer with 8" floppies. Some of the longer papers I typed required more than one floppy.

As I recall, laserdiscs preceded even VHS.
And the first car I ever drove on a regular basis had an 8 track player installed. Ah, good times, good times....

I knew of 8" but never had to use them. Had a 5.25" floppy drive for my C64, though.

Do you know how many 5.25" floppies it took to install the last version of Lotus 1-2-3? Eleven, I kid you not... I was at one point Queen of Alt-X macros in 1-2-3.

Been there, done that. The demise of floppies didn't really upset us IT guys much, esp. when 3.5" finally gave way to CD/DVD and flash drives. Now I can carry multiple large installers in my pocket.

In the early days of PCs, one had to be a little more computer-savvy than one must be today. My evening thoughts right now are that there are two critters weaving around each other in their persistence to tell me how soon they will starve to death...well, actually, one is more barking, the other is more weaving...
