Maybe it is the recognition aspect of the coupons that is valued by the students. Not their spending potential.

That's a good thought paradox3. That could be true. When we first introduced the coupons they spent more - perhaps because of the novelty of them. There also now seems to be a competition among some of the students as to who can collect the most coupons.

@Jae what did you think of the mask? Just reading about it, it sounds like it could limit communication, especially as dentists rely on visual cues a fair bit.
I've never had nitrous treatment either.

The mask was okay ChemGal. Thank you for asking. If anything, it was the clamp-like device that limited communication. However, we could still communicare okay. The dentist asked me (through Yobo) to just make an "uh" noise if I was feeling any distress. He also told me other things about the treatment as it went on.

A bit of a sad day at my academy. March 4th is the beginning of the new school semester, and it was the last day for some of our students. I've never before done as much hugging there. Come Monday, we'll have some new students in the mix. I sure will miss some of those who have left us though.

Something they want more than candy, chocolate, and kids' school supplies? What do you suggest we offer - laptop computers? :ROFLMAO:

Not sure about Korean kids, but we adults tend to do a lot of implicit and explicit coaching with kids/teens in terms of delayed gratification. Our kids are taught to save their money for a rainy day, defer doing something fun in favour of studying, and so on. We send strong messages that saving is a very desirable practice. It doesn't surprise me in the least that kids might be saving their coupons.

If the goal is to spend their coupons on small treats you might wish to have an expiry date so it is impossible to save more than a certain amount.

That's a great idea. Thank you DaisyJane. I'll suggest it to the KingTeacher.

It might be wise to think through the goals of the programme. What is the point of the programme? Learning to live in an instant gratitification world? Encouraging the kids to eat/value junk food and trinkets?

To encourage good behavior.

To be clear, it isn't all junk food and trinkets. Options available for purchase include pencils, erasers and notebooks. We also just added small cans of beverages including juices.

The wahl'n continues ... in Briton they called them communal criers ... some wished them stilled ... that's the essence of confined intelligence ... patriarchs supported this if the masses were devoid ... the autocracies could do as they wish ... trumpian oily garchs (old word for slippery items like weasels and ermine as the royal wear). Supports bloody insur wreck shuns ... and the thoughts bust out eventually ... ancient dis eases! There's a fey intelligence ... took flight ...

Very complex for those wishing simple ... thus the incubus for some ... deep throat for the alter nate ... Nate being an old word for a wise man that would be more than wise when para 'd up Sophetically! Most go for the stunned relations ... heterogeneous ignition like two cooks destracting Dinah ... thus the sores ... can't be explained in reality ... only in the mine 'd! Dug outs ... hollowed deals ... that's a log or other avatar ... tis symbolic of the unknowns ...

All is chaos the St Ain't 's Nix ..

Here in Korea, an increasingly major concern is the yellow dust that blows into the land. Interestingly, I saw one article on Facebook yesterday saying that most of the dust is produced in South Korea and about 10 minutes later a second article saying thst most of the dust was coming from China. An adult student told me yesterday that the amount of dust actually increases in Spring months. People are quite concerned, of course. I've heard many warnings - don't drink tap water, always wear a mask, don't eat street food, wash vegetables using filtered water and vinegar or baking soda, etc. I have to get myself a new mask. In lieu of an expensive air purifier, I'm going to tape a car filter onto the back of an old fan and run it. That should be sufficient for my one room apart.
