Our furnace is almost 19 years old and has only needed the blower replaced so far. Emphasis on "so far." The father of one of Little M's old school chums is an HVAC tech with his own business so we know where to go when it does act up.

Our temp. is due to dip to -18 overnight so it was timely to get the repair done.
Good timing then! Today it is "spring" in my neighbourhood - PLUS 7!! and SUNSHINE! Snow is melting rapidly tho - and I think there may be some flooding, with rain in the forecast for later this afternoon. It's a far cry from the -27 wind chills we were experiencing last week at this time!

Here, too. Supposed to cool off again but only to -5. Little M reports Ottawa is having a record winter, both for cold and snow. Alas, he can't really get away. Between classes and co-op interviews, he's pretty busy, even for break week.

Grande Prairie, AB is -42. I'm glad I'm not there. The Vancouver station is saying it's -12 in YVR.

I was on our front porch in my nightie drinking coffee this morning. The sun felt wonderful.
Our driveway is relatively long & hilly. I have a meeting tonight so was worried as it was quite slippery this morning, but, looks like the melt is going well, and should be clear and safe by this evening.

Cold here although I don't think we have hit -40C even with windchill all winter so far.

Short whine:
It is freezing rain today, and it is the one day that I have to go out in the morning.
Not just that, I have to go out as I am picking up my Dad for a dental appointment booked a few weeks ago.
Sigh. This will not be fun for anyone involved.

Old buried wisdom is as difficult as the Dai of the Dead ... final desires? I hope I learned something from them ... thus implantations in what is claimed to be only in essence ... psyche? That other ghost as doppelganger ... complex to explain ... not for those looking for KISS!

Thanks dentist is open, so we got there and back. Safe and sound.

It is always interesting how the brain works. Our drive today was filled with Dad's sightings of rail roads, trains and rail yards of the New York Central. Of course, it wasn't. I was also driving with a 100 year old, which I also wasn't.

Fascinating.

Glad you made it there & back without incident pinga. The mis-identifications are interesting aren't they? I just rec'd an envelope from my Dad containing batch of old photos. He had written on the backs of some of them - for example one I recognized as my brother's children playing on huge snow mound in the centre of their crescent, with a date on the front of the photo 1999. Dad had written on the back that it was me & my brother playing in the snow - which would have been in about 1960. I hope and trust the photos engaged him in some pleasant memories.

Sounds like his drive was more interesting than yours.:) I don't recall Dad being like that. He was more just slow to respond and confused most of the time.

The brain is more Mrs. M's province than mine. I think that if she'd grown up in better circumstances (ie. here or in a China with no Cultural Revolution) she might have been a neurologist or something like that.

He is really social, so, he loves to talk. You & I might see something , and go , that's not right, and do a second look. He sees things and lives in a world where it becomes real. I am better now than I used to be at living in that train ride, or in that train yard, rather than correcting. Some thing I can work with, like his age , but i often just live with it. I still have issues with the stories that are mean or vicious particularly regarding my Mom, or a sibling. I am better at living within the vicious stories re me.

We had freezing rain overnight and the world was an ice ring this morning. Coworker who lived on a hill had to wait until it started to rain , the fire trucks had blocked the street because it was too dangerous to go downhill. Kids had their tenth day off school this winter. Tonight getting cold again. I am sure there will be plenty of broken hips and ankles in the already full hospital on Monday.

WOW - amazing video of the salt truck! There was a similar one of a transport truck - looked like Buffalo NY or somewhere near Niagara Falls NY. We escaped the worst of the freezing rain where I am, but the melting then freeezing has left many areas slick with ice. I think you're right - ERs will be full this weekend. We just walked over to friend's place on the next street, and home again - with extreme care!! Mostly we could find ice free paths - but there sketchy sections for sure.

I went to board game cafe tonight. My husband had driven out earlier, but, his car is an older volvo and mine is a sentra.
As I went down our driveway very slowly, i started to go sideways. Thankful for the old rally driving that helped me centre it (twice), and get up the little hill to get out on the main road.

Coming home just now wasn't so bad. A bit more snow on the ice, and a run at it, and i got through the slippery section.

We also had quite the whiteouts early. All gone when I came home.
A couple of nights ago we had freezing rain, then heavy heavy fog.
and before that, we had warm weather and all our snow melted.

The weather is definitely unpredictable these days.

It's just cold here. Chemguy figured out why the sink line froze (with my help). This week I paid attention to the water temperatures when running it. It would start off cool as usual but go ice cold about a second before the hot water would hit. Other faucets in the house were similar. So I figured it had to be close to the hot water tank. Yep, in the basement the waterlines were close to the air intake for the hot water tank. There was no insulation between them. There was still frost on the air intake despite being at least 10 degrees warmer now, but wasn't easy to see without a ladder and a flashlight (not something I really felt up to doing this week). The sink that had lost water for a while was actually making contact with it. I'm glad it was a simple fix, I was feeling like I needed to run the hot water frequently to prevent it from happening again when we were in the -30s.
