Julia and her musical partner David MeShow do lush, layered a capella mix covers similar to those of Peter Hollens as well as more conventional covers. An example of each.

And if you're wondering about Julia's accent, she's a Swede by birth, though one profile I read said she moved to Canada in 2012.

And I just found the video on her channel telling the story of how a Swedish pop singer ended up in Canada. Her aforementioned musical partner David MeShow is the stagename of French-Canadian musician David Michaud, and he is also her husband, the end result of a long distance love that began on YouTube in 2011.

More Westlin a capella, with her husband providing a bass line. I think she hits a nice medium between the original and the Disturbed cover in tone here, though her version is different from both.

What? You didn't like 'Allouette?'

Not that one. At least that's a real French song. I am think more of teaching songs like singing the days of the week (yes, we did that). Get the job done, I guess, but tedious as hell.

Saw a nice band, last night, from your neck of the woods, Mendalla. Husband and wife duo, both music teachers, one high school, one primary. Three LPs out, fourth almost done. The Marrieds. From London, ON. With a 4 piece band, one young guy very talented on alt strings, like slide guitar, and a keyboardist who made our 115 year old Heintzmann grand sing. Fundraiser for our parking lot, which is in very sorry shape indeed, and will probably need to the tune of a quarter million to properly re-create.

Good song-writing, very solid. Nice blend of voices and personalities. Worth a listen if you hear they're playing locally. Bit romantic, hence their band name, but not in a superficial way.

@BetteTheRed, thanks for posting that. I have never really had the time to plunge into the local music scene beyond a few with UU connections. I see that song won a Jack Richardson Award last year (our local music awards) and deserved it. Will check them out a bit more. I see by their bio that they released their first songs during Snowmaggedon in 2010. I think I would have adopted that as my band name.

The inhabitants of Perth and Hobart had quite the aural experiences...

Steve Perry’s back. He’s still got it.

Saw the album come out when I was doing my Google Play Music trial but never got around to listening. Must see if Hoopla has it.\

I've been listening to the The Capitol Studios Sessions by Jeff Goldblum & the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. I had mentioned my discovery that this favorite actor of mine was now a jazz man in Random Acts of Music but finally got around to finding and listening to the actual album. It's live with some intros and audience reactions left in. It includes "My Baby Just Cares for Me" featuring Haley Reinhart on vocals, which I posted in Random Acts..., along with songs by a some other vocalists and instrumentals by the band. And a helluva jazz band it is. Definitely not something I would have expected from Goldblum but I'm glad it happened.

The Greatest Showman Reimagined is out. I mentioned it in a post in Random Acts of Music, but it wasn't out yet, then. Reimagined is the complete songlist from the movie musical covered by various pop artists. It's generally pretty good, with some odd ducks (rapping added to a couple songs) but also some great versions. "Tightrope" is done by Sara Bareilles and she handles it beautifully. "Greatest Show", the lead-off song, is covered twice, by Panic! At The Disco and Pentatonix (the second is a bonus track) and both capture the energy of the song. Kelly Clarkson belts out "Never Enough" with the expected results. The real surprise charmer, though, is the final song of the show "From Now On", reimagined as a folk-country ballad by the Zac Brown Band.

And, the version I picked up from Hoopla is the Deluxe Edition, meaning once I've listened to all the cover versions, I also have the OST of the movie to listen to as well (featuring Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Zendaya, and Keala Settle).

A couple of the reimagined tracks compared with originals:

Kelly Clarkson tackling the powerful Never Enough,

For comparison, here's original singer Loren Allred with a live performance of the song,

And the inevitable love duet (is there a musical in existence without one?). Here it's reimagined with vocals by James Arthur and Anne Marie,

The original, with Zac Efron and Zendaya,
