Don't know why, but I seem to have ABBA on the brain. I don't think it's the sequel to Mamma Mia that's doing it (though it's sure not helping). I hadn't even realized it was imminent until after I started incessantly listening to ABBA Gold in the car.
So, I've checked out Super Trouper, which has long been my favorite ABBA album, from Hoopla and had it on coming in to work this morning. And, damned if it doesn't hold up well. Benny and Bjorn's songwriting is top-notch and the ladies are in fine form on the vocals. And I think it's got some of Benny's best keyboard work, too. Songs include the title track (which opens with some gorgeous a cappella singing by Agnetha and Anni-Frid), The Winner Takes It All (one of their best compositions), One of Us, Happy New Year, and The Way Old Friends Do, which ends the album with a bang (sung in full harmonies over Wembley Stadium's pipe organ).
