Yes. That's part of the reason why I've been reluctant to come to any decision about just what that meeting with Putin was about. Really, his only interest is in the wealthy of American society. That certainly does not mean any real interest in the people or even the wealthy of Europe.
I'm not really sure that his interest is even in "the wealthy of American society." I think his interest is himself. That such a self-interest would benefit his fellow wealthy Americans is a happy by-product for them.

He now says, reading from a script, which means his staff have written it and told him to read it
I meant to say. I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be Russia
But then in his own words he adds in. Or it could be others. And he clarifies for people. That’s a like a double negative
There have, from the moment he announced his candidacy, been two Trumps - the one that reads from the script or the teleprompter and the one that speaks off the cuff.
The off the cuff Trump is obviously the real thing.
His performance over the last couple of months (starting with the G7 Summit, through NATO and to the Putin meeting) has been telling, as many have pointed out.
He has levelled criticism (even attacks) against Trudeau, Merkel, May - and even, mildly in his "correction," Putin. But he's never done it to their face. He won't do it to their face. He can't do it to their face. Because he's a typical bully who is, at heart, a coward. He'll talk a tough game as long as he doesn't have to do it face to face with the one he's talking against.
And if you look at the foreign leaders he seems to like most and sometimes (often) speaks kindly of - Putin, Kim, Xi, Dutarte, Erdogan - it's, again, textbook. Those who are weak like to compensate for their weaknesses by getting close with those who seem strong and tough.
