Well now that Elliott has conceded the victory to Ford it will surely be smooth sailing from here.

I mean, what else could possibly go wrong?

Have you looked about us lately ... I know may haven't because of isolationism and excess individualism ... no ecclesia? They just don't gather ...

The election of Doug Ford as leader is yet another sign of the rot taking hold of the conservative movement across the western world. "Conservatism" has lost any sight of its ideological roots and has become an awkward mish-mash of social conservatism (wanting the government to dictate what is and is not moral), anti-immigration sentiment and radical populism which expresses itself in insults and personal attacks against opponents to appeal to an increasingly rabid base vote. From my perspective, one of the saddest parts of this is the evangelical Christian community adopting an "ends justify the means approach" and largely giving up even any pretence of actually caring about the words, behaviours and attitudes of those they embrace as they rush headlong into the arms of people like Trump and Ford. Meanwhile, many of our more "progressive" politicians seem completely lost: adrift on a sea of platitudes, political correctness and warm fuzzies with seemingly no consistent ideas on what they really want to do if they get power - with our own Justin Trudeau as the poster boy for this trend. It's sad. Truly sad. And where it will lead us - nobody knows, but probably no place good.

As to where it will lead us? I think we're already seeing some effects...

Like the one at Grant Hall in Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario during the inaguration of a new lecture series. During the 90 or so minute address, those present experienced this

The 38-year-old window basher was eventually arrested (charged with police assault, mischief, carrying a concealed weapon and posession of a weapon 4 a dangerous purpose). She bit a police officer. She had a metal garrotte. That is shocking.

There were more people outside, screeching.

One of the mob outside said lock them in and burn it down.

And some of the presenters were accosted.

Truly insane behaviour. Even Canadians can be mad.

So, yeah. Time for some good leadership. Help us out of this fastmoving ideological nightmare that is metastatizing.

ps The damage to the stained glass window is trying to be fixed by a crowdfunded campaign

It was a rhetorical question.

I'm a Calvinist. I am never surprised that anything goes wrong. Though I might be surprised at what exactly it was that went wrong.

What to expect if Ford becomes Premier...

...He will "repeal" sex-ed.

...He will allow his backbenchers to table legislation on restricting access to abortions.

...He will give parents the power to block a teen's abortion.

...He will give religious doctors the right to refuse to refer patients seeking abortions.

...He will... do... something to keep opposing Bill 163.

All while on a withdrawal program ...

The PC's will be prepared. They will claim to be taking the moral high road - to be the protectors of the province's children.

Thus the kid is silently screwed ... like A Brae Ham on the mountain ... kidding around with the edge ... Occam's Prin. Can disturb the eye Saac ... bring on the darkness ... be prepared ... blind perspective won't do ... have a boo at the situation ...

My question is how long these last if things go badly. He made these promises to both lock up the right wing vote and ensure Granic Allan would back him after the first ballot. If the Tories start doing badly and the lean to right is identified as an issue, will he pull a Brown and slide to centre or stay the course? After all, they have been doing very well in the polls with a moderate, centre-right platform that even nicked some items (carbon tax) from the Liberals. Is swinging right really going to improve on that?
