Mendalla, this is a difficult-to-negotiate bit. I'd advise you to make sure that you have a couple of good solid first choices that don't have waiting lists in the years (some of them do). My Mom was in her 'not-preferred home', in a village 50 km from home (and a really nasty drive in the winter), for 18 months (two winters), so I was very glad when she was back in town, but she'd made some very good friends by the time she left and it was hard for her to re-adjust. Very good question to ask: what do you do when staff are off sick? (Best answer: call in a replacement. Poor answer: well, if it's only for one shift...) Hugs as you work through this.

He's third on the list for one of our top choices so we're moving it to the top of the list in hopes that he gets in there sooner rather than later.

@ChemGal , good luck and hope this turns out better than you expect but thoughts and good vibes in the event that it isn't.

my thoughts are with you & yours too ChemGal.

Mendalla - more changes coming - a time of transition for everyone. Hoping things settle without too much strain.

No big family Thanksgiving plans this year - so that is a change. Nice weather forecast for tomorrow though - so in the spirit of embracing change, we're going to go check out the Burford Fall Fair - looks pretty interesting and lots of fun! Who knows, maybe I'll bump into revjohn there :-)

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling a little worn out and sad. I've mostly been distracting myself since getting that call today. I'll have to get packing soon though. Luckily, I can sleep on the trip there while Chemguy drives. Between being on the phone late, not sleeping great with the phone nearby and getting out of bed once it was late enough to be reasonable, so I would be alert enough to do the driving to an appointment if it was wanted.

Chemguy's family will be loud and celebratory, so there will be a break from the sombre mood of my family.

Good Saturday afternoon everyone!

Hope all those who are travelling are kept safe this weekend.

It is a sunny day here . . . and nice temperatures. But I have been puttering inside. Doing some regular cleaning (having Thanksgiving supper here tomorrow early after church), and working one one cupboard at the same time. Then going to get a few things ready for tomorrow that I can do today.

Worked at garage sale at church yesterday in the morning and in the early evening. I sure hope they sold lots this morning, otherwise there is going to be a lot of items to be dispersed. I thought some of the prices were high. I always feel at a garage sale, if you want things to go, you have to price them low, others disagreed and priced things a little higher than I would have. Perhaps it wouldn't make a difference anyway. I came home with a few items I didn't really need, and once I got them home found out I didn't really want them - oh well, they are items I can dress up and regift.

I'm watching the family across the street and down a bit put up some hallowe'en decorations. Halloween decorating seems to be a big thing here. And with the nice day I'm sure many will be out doing it. They have a great big white and black spider on the lawn and looks like they are putting up a big pumpkin with a black cat on it. They are the blow up kind of decorations. A few little ones out helping them.

Hope everyone has something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving One and All!!

Good morning all!

Turkey is in oven, salads are ready, hubby is in kitchen peeling vegetables - all is good. Bought pumpkin pie and cool whip is in fridge. We are going to have our "supper" right after church this morning. Then we can have leftovers for a few days. My sis and my daughter are coming to join us. They will have leftovers to take home.

I am thankful today - I am blessed.

No turkey here. We're having "Communist Soup", so called because the Chinese learned it from the Russians during the early Mao years before they had a falling out with the Soviet Union. Basically, a beef soup with potatoes, carrots, onions, cabbage, and tomatoes. We spice it up a bit by adding some curry but that's our personal touch.

Happy Thanksgiving, All!

I am having a quiet day today, as is the family.
Sons were out during the day, weekend hockey has begun for my husband.
I relaxed, then went shopping to the market garden for vegetables, and then went and visited Dad.
Dinner is roast beef, with veggies (lots), hoping there will be lots left to freeze for dinners for dad.
Tomorrow is the big dinner and will have dad over then. My son was over yesterday working in dad's garden for 3 hrs, so he is getting a good mix of visits.

Church this morning - a sparse gathering - many folks at cottages & visiting away; an afternoon outside in the garden & chatting with neighbours in the sunshine; shrimp risotto coming up for dinner! A lovely day of gratitude.

Ah yes - and our excursion to the Fall Fair yesterday was terrific. So great to go through the buildings & see all the baking, preserves, crafts, photography, knitting, quilting, 4H Club projects, school projects, flower show, produce displays. I loved the intergenerational focus of all the displays & competitions. Big display by the Tractor Club - lots of the tractors were older than I am! Amazing to walk around the new farm equipment - so enormous - and we pay our farmer so little to grow our food - I don't honestly know how they manage. Saw a precision riding show by the Canadian Cowgirls - google them - pretty famous! And of course we bought a most delicious pumpkin pie to enjoy this weekend!
