You have wireless Internet. That's fine. You can use it wherever you go. I'm guessing you're with Optus? Just looked at a page with Australian providers.

If you have a landline phone, there seems to be $35/month DSL with 50GB+ plans. But if the mobile stick works for you, keep it.

Yep - super sleuth, it's Optus..... :)

Most young folks have ditched their landlines here in Oz - but we oldies love them and keep them. I've had my phone for so long its a part of me. The calls are cheaper than mobiles -and we can talk for hours (my record is 3 hours) and the line is always clearer than my mobile -important when your hearing isn't as good as it once was......

Besides, there are some good deals. I can (and do) ring Crazyheart in Canada for $2.50 - just so long as I don't go over 15 minutes. As we're sharing the roofer it's only fair that I inform her every time his plane lands here in Oz. ;)

Hey pilgrim, sometimes nice neighbours let you use yours. If you are talking to that nice young man in your building, he may not mind you being on guest

Yes, thanks Pinga, I know neighbours would help out...... But it's not so much cost with me - I like the discipline of keeping to 5gigs.
Living on my own it's important I get out and exercise and socialise.

A local tightwad recently complained that his internet wasn't working - because his neighbour hadn't paid his bill!

Serves the neighbour right. Obviously hadn't secured his wi-fi. I'm actually quite pleased these days to see that all the wi-fi connections I see on my phone when I'm at home are secured, though I haven't tested any to see if they are using default passwords.

Wow - you computer types have your own languages!

In library school, I learned to classify using DDC and LC and assign subject headings using LCSH while cataloguing using AACR2

In IT, I have decide how much RAM and SSD storage I need to run my CRM and ERP systems.

I think all professions have their own language when it comes right down to it.

In my job, we threw around CRN (Course Registration Number), SWF (Standard Workload Form), TCH (Teaching Contact Hour), as if they were real words.

Except the first one, she are no more. They are now merged into the LHINs and go by that name.
In transition, I would say. My dad is currently in a rehab facility and "CCAC" is still being used. Even by the hospital based co-ordinator. I kid you not.

We are still using it, but our latest contract is definitely with the LHIN so the legal name change has happened. I imagine it will take a while to "stick" in the field.
