how do you handle those certain "friends" that constantly post inappropriate content? do you confront them? do you delete them? do you send them a personal message. sadly, some of these folks are family, so i want to handle it fairly sensitively, although their posts are anything but sensitive. any suggestions?

I have at times deleted material posted by family members.

I have even unfriended family members.

I don't send personal messages either way. I feel that I can censor the content on my own fb page as I need to. I also feel that I don't need to defend my fb friend choices to anyone.

Speak the truth in love. Send them a really polite message to say that while you value them as a friend/family member, if they continue to post material you think is inappropriate (cite a few examples), you will have to unfriend them.

a part of me naively hopes that they may come across some of my tolerant posts and change, or think differently perhaps. wishful thinking, huh?

Depends. I'll comment on some, ignore others, hide from my news feed, etc.

i've thought of that as well. the irony is they will wish a "blessed day" in one post, but then this huge racist rant in another (as far wishing death). it's pretty intense and the hate runs pretty deep. yikes! i think rev. john's way might be the way to go. and when they try to refriend me (it happens) i will just ignore it. these posts are really upsetting. puts me in a terrible mood. i even posted kimmio's video from the panhandler thread thinking that maybe they might think a little more "christ" like, but nope. my world view is far too liberal and soft. today there was a rant (that i was not involved in) about how soft parents are these days and how the world has gone to hell in a hand basket because parents have stopped spanking their kids...

Yeah, I've deleted some, commented on some... I've even reported one or two to the Facebook authorities. Thankfully, my family and friends don't post inappropriate material, but I sometimes see inappropriate stuff in some of the groups that I'm in.

thanks chemgal. i fear what i may say should i choose to engage *lol* i have tried hiding it from my feed, but that seems to only last so long before their crap starts popping up again...

I once e-mailed a friend and to all the folk he posted to . I told him I thought his post was racist and
not to send me any more. Half of his friends ( whom I didn't know), sent me intolerant messages. However. my name was taken
off his list for a long time.

You probably know your family better than I do.

I can't control what my family thinks (or doesn't) when they post what they do (but shouldn't).

I can control to some extent what appears on my wall.

I think there's also a way (I could be mistaken about this) that you can turn off notifications from some friends.

Did you remove the person from your newsfeed? I did that a while ago with one person and I haven't seen anything from them there since! I guess if you have common FB friends who tend to comment on their posts it will still show up.

i'm quite surprised at it, actually. i think deleting without explanation is the way to go. thanks!

would unfollowing do the trick? i just went through my friends list and cleaned it up. i went ahead and deleted. no explanation. i think that's probably best. thanks chemgal :)
Depending on friends in common you might have to block them as well.

I recently unfriended a family member for speaking ill of the company that I work for :(

I have a niece and grandnieces who post personal things about themselves and their relationships that I wouldn't whisper to my best friend. I simply ignore these posts.
I don't want to unfriend them because they also post pictures and news of their children (first day of school, missing front teeth, birthday party), and other news of the family.
