Hi RitaTG - thought perhaps this sharing of story by the recipient of the 2017 Mother Eagle Award might resonate with you in some ways. I found her story and insights very moving, and I'd like to read & listen to more of her publications, lectures etc.

“…like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them aloft…”
Deut. 32:11 (NIV)

The Mother Eagle Award was established in 2017 to honor the women who have taken the lead in courageously advocating for LGBTQIA equality in Christianity. Its purpose is to express gratitude and to ensure their stories are known and their sacrifices remembered.

The annual award is jointly presented by Christian Feminism Today and The Gay Christian Network.

Virginia Ramey Mollenkott, author and Christian LGBTQIA activist, was selected as the first recipient of the award.

Interesting, thank-you carolla.

I attended a corporate lgbtqq2 event today and was thankful for the support shown in the normalcy of the event. Just people having lunch together. Recognized support by attendnng the event. It was perfect in its normalcy, if that makes sense.

@Jae .......... simple straightforward answer ...... YES .....
There are 3 things to look for.....
- Insistent
- Persistent
- Consistent
What to do.....
Easy ....
Provide a gender neutral environment to give space for the child to explore and work out what all this mean to them.
NEUTRAL .... do not force a definition and gender expectations on the child.
I have a grandson that liked to wear his older sister's tutus and dresses sometimes.
My daughter was wise and just let him be and did not make a big deal out of it.
He grew out of it .
CAUTION:
The damage parents and adults can do to a child with gender issues by forcing a role and expectations upon them can be very severe. It is not possible to make a trans child cis-gendered and it is also not possible to make a cis-gendered child trans.
Thank you for the video and the question.

And our Senate has finally done it. C-16, extending protections under the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code to include "gender identity" and "gender expression" has passed. Hopefully, the G-G is available to sign and proclaim it so we can have it in place for our 150th birthday in a couple weeks.

Canada enacts protections for transgender community

@RitaTG, I know this is only part of a bigger puzzle, but I hope you and other activists who have been backing this bill are able to take a moment to savor and celebrate this small advance before moving on to the next battle.

Will the broad-based knowledge of lady wisdom be better respected or still considered as an ugly entry to passionate domains?

Is anything despised by emotional and opinionated folk that strange information (foreign intelligence)? To some of us the theological strange attractor (some curios-IDe required)! It is all hidden in liturgy ... just for sharpened literacy's kills!

Some say it is andro po morphic ... a creeping base of conspiracy to learn? A shift from determined stasis of not knowing ... like St IHC-y?

It's Pride Month & this week includes particular recognition of transgendered people.

That doesn't really answer my question though, does it Carolla. If private individuals, businesses and organizations want to celebrate Pride, that's fine. Why is it required for Queen's Park to have the transgender flag flying there?

It isn't a requirement. It is actually something that organizations and institutions with flag poles can opt into or remain out of. The Provincial Government was asked to opt in and after consideration the Provincial Government decided to opt in.

Since it is not policy setting or even precedent setting there was no need for opposition parties to be consulted and no vote in the legislature was required to make it happen.

It would have been just as legitimate had the Government opted not to participate.

In 2014 NB Premier David Alward prohibitted at least one school from flying the Pride flag during Pride Week. Of course that is a hypocritical ruling since the Pride Flag did fly over the Provincial Legislature during the Sochi Olympics (2014) as part of protest over the Russian Government's treatment of Gay and Lesbians as well as a gesture of support for Gay and Lesbian athletes participating in the Sochi Olympics.

As John said, it is not legally required, but I would argue it is morally the right thing to do and I support it. The government of the province represents ALL of the people in that province and rightly celebrates ALL of their contributions. And that includes LGBTQ, who have traditionally been marginalized and even persecuted (and, in the case of the T and Q, often still are even here). Flying the flag signifies that we as a province are ready to stand with and support these groups.

Okay, thanks John.

Okay Mendalla. So then, looking forward to the straight flag being flown.

When we have a Straight PRIDE festival to commemorate the marginalization and persecution faced by straight people, then there is a point to doing so. However, straight is the norm. Straight is the people doing the marginalizing and persecuting. There is no need for a festival for straight PRIDE because every frigging day is about straight PRIDE.

Ah, I see. Before when you said, "The government of the province represents ALL of the people in that province and rightly celebrates ALL of their contributions," what you really meant was, 'The government of the province represents ONLY the marginalized and persecuted people in the province and rightly celebrates ONLY the contributions of the marginalized and persecuted people.' Got it.

Good to hear that you're in support of the marginalized and persecuted people in the province being celebrated though. So when does the Christian flag get flown?

As usual you miss the point Jae
Straight Pride Day is every day
Your attitude shown in your posts shows exactly why it is important that the transgender flag is flown

Yes, I guess you're happy so long as your people's flag gets flown. What about my people RitaTG? Shouldn't our flag be flown as well? Isn't that only fair.

I'm just imagining all the straight people in the world reacting in horror at being called "your people".
