And the pipes can be heard in many parts of Normandy.

And in parts of the Middle East and Eastern Europe. The fact is that the bagpipe was invented by the Egyptians and spread throughout the Mediterranean world by the Romans. The Gaels, Dacians, and others got the pipes from the Romans and they got passed down to descendant modern cultures, though each culture evolved its own form of the instrument.

And I, incidentally, love bagpipes. Dad was a big fan of British brass bands and pipes & drums and I kind of inherited that, along with his love of opera and organs.

@Mendalla, I too love opera and the pipe organ. So much wonderful music out there. Too each their own I guess. I suspect my dislike of bagpipes comes from a small church I used to attend that had a piper every year at Rembrance Day services and I found it ear piercing in a confined small building.

Bagpipes are meant to be played outdoors in a light mist - they sound completely different.

I like every kind of music, pretty well, particularly opera, classical and roots musics plus jazz, blues, some pop, another radio 2 woman, but everything else is interesting and also potentially wonderful, as well. Not a fan of country, but I like bluegrass. Pipes are okay in the right atmosphere, military music is usually out, but my dad liked some of the scot pipes & drums stuff, so can tolerate in occasional situational matrix. And my guy is an "old deadhead tape trader", who is still a wiz at exchanging music and keeps me abreast of all sort of stuff/

And I was a Scottish Country Dancer as a young woman, usually my mother's partner in a small local club.

All of these ancestry claims are pretentious. As jae knows, we are all descended from just Adam and Eve whose irregular behaviour led them to the hasty invention of the kilt.
Except Scots, of course.
Bethanne - your casual mention of Chautauqua time - does that mean I am called upon yet again? If so, when is the due date?

OY! Yes, another deadline is coming up fast...if you could have something to me by Wed. Thanks.

P3 is right...I'm a Highland dancer.

I have to be in the right mood to listen to opera or classical music and I don't seem to be in the right mood often. Love Celtic harp. Any Irish or Scottish...like country and 50s music...can tolerate folk and bluegrass.
