Vaping - a healthier option to smoking?

It works - so far.

Some people have taken up vaping for the pleasure of vaping, maybe to replace smoking or maybe not. There are probably 101 flavours available. And the devices are interesting, some custom designed. It reminds me of a modern take on the old tobacconist shop, and different flavoured tobaccos and styles of pipes. Or, maybe similar to hookah but in a small, electronic pipe.

good to hear it is a useful alternative to you Kimmio - hoping you will be able to quit eventually if that is your goal. Moving to a no-smoking environment may be helpful - or else you'll just end up with waterproof slippers & a rain slicker for a housecoat! LOL

I can't even smoke on the property. I'd have to go for a walk. Not worth it. I love that this doesn't smell bad. My clothes and hair don't smell. It literally disapates in a few seconds. And it's enjoyable like smoking (smokers would understand). I will have my own self contained space - no roomies. So, this is great. There's no anti-vape rule. It doesn't linger anyway.

I wonder about the flavours. They were banned for cigarettes as they seemed to attract younger people to them. I wonder if they will be banning them for vaping or if people are just ignoring the current rules.

Just so's you know, if you're on oxygen we treat you the same if you're vaping as if you're smoking either cigs or joints. In either case, you're putting heat near O2 and that's asking for trouble. Basically, if someone insists on smoking, they're going to be getting more frequent visits from our staff to make sure due precautions are being taken and even recent quitters get monitored (though less frequently) in case they relapse.

Why? Because if some dumbf**k smokes while on oxygen and sets themselves on fire, we can get in trouble. I just added a whole module to our systems to track smoking risk.

*sigh*

That's very unfortunate. I am not on oxygen and would not do that. Hopefully I will never need to be on oxygen.

I think you now have to be 18 or 19+ to go into a vape store, and as far as I know those are the only retail places that sell it.

Yes you have to be 19 yrs, my nephew has 3 stores and also manufacturers in Ontario, it's become big big business ,
What do you think about it, Blackbelt?

With all the flavours - recently tried chai spice - I'm thinking I'm enjoying it too much. It's kind of fun. So, I'm not sure about how good a quitting aide it is.:whistle: On the plus side, chai spice (like clove and/ or nutmeg) smells great and disapates very quickly. The smell doesn't permeate everything like cigarette smoke. So, I don't smell like an ashtray. Other than that ... I told my doctor. He thinks it's better than smoking but can still irritate the small airways, and probably do damage to them over time (again, 'maybe' not as much as smoking) - so if I intend to ween down the nicotine and quit, he's all for it. Otherwise, it is just another, maybe less risky and stinky, vice. But a pharmacist told me people get addicted to the gum, too. And the gum irritates the throat a bit (and it actually gives me wicked hiccups sometimes, for some reason) . The patch is too much steady nicotine - I felt ill when I tried it.Bottom line is...quitting permanently is very hard for lots of people. Maybe harm reduction is what I have to keep in mind. I suppose I take that risk myself but I don't like bothering others.

im not sure, they tell me its only water with flavoring , its still under testing

this past weekend my sisters, her husband and son went to some opening show here in Toronto, was about smoking and vaping

http://abillionlives.com/

its about how the governments, and special interests grps , tobacco companies are trying to kill the vaping industry

My Nephew tells me that in the US, vaping manufactures are being bought out buy big tabaco companies, then shutting them down to keep them out of the industry

I gave up smoking by gradually going from Players to Players Light and then Players Ultralight, and by lowering the number of cigs I allowed myself each day. That was about 10 years ago.

Never tried vaping.

I became a non-smoker following a successful single hypnosis session (plus a couple of weeks of regular listening to a hypnosis track before bed). Went from a pack and a half (of real cigarettes, not 'lite' ones) to nothing with no trauma or pain.

I have been and still am a smoker - started at 16 and now 60. In the last 3 months I know of 3 people very dear to me that have quit smoking cigarettes and are vaping instead. All 3 have spent less money than on smoking and are feeling much better physically and mentally. I am going to try it myself as soon as I get the paraphernalia - thanks to @blackbelt1961 - for this http://vaping360.com/a-billion-lives-review-we-saw-it-did-it-deliver/ ...

  • Perhaps the strongest impression left by A Billion Lives is the sheer scale of forces arrayed against the disruptive technology of vaping. A lot of people, from prohibitionist activists to cash-strapped governments, have a lot to lose if vaping continues to grow. These people are determined and ruthless, a coalition of baptists and bootleggers that Biebert exposes with harsh clarity. More uncomfortably, the glare of his scrutiny is turned on vapers themselves when it’s needed – pointing out, for example, that public cloud-chasing can make us seem like our own worst enemies.

Always willing to participate in action that thwarts FDA/BigPharma/Government corruption.
