There was a time when international missions made a lot of sense. People in some nations were not aware that God was active in their country. So , God sent missionaries and church-planters to those lands to encounter him there and to help the people see him at work.
So the missionaries went their and spoilt it for them. by killing those who didn't convert. and oppressing the rest. Yes god works in loving ways, doesn't he.

It's western Europeans and we North Americans who to a great degree have lost sight of God amongst us.
And that's a bad thing how? (Good sense always wins through.)

Is God as an icon in the form of word at right angles to fear and anger over having to learn to read out of a spectre of books instead of just one?

That should cause a splatter in the institutional setting where the oligarchs would like to grease us all up for a good scroo' win over ...

What does this actually mean?

There are layers. Some layers are more general and universal and others more personal and particular.

Is it the reason folks go into ministry?

Hopefully, not necessarily.

Does God call other than those in the ministry?

All are called to some ministry. All are not called to the office of Minister.

How do you discern the difference between what you want to do - from what God is calling you to do?

Gently and with some time, effort and patience.

So far my experience has been that God calls me to go where I would usually not think of going. God's call is more of an invitation to challenge rather than an invitation to party.

Have you personally felt that you've had a call from God?

Yup. It was definitely not something I thought of as a good thing to do.

I didn't run away from it I did challenge God to prove it. God rose to that challenge.

And then I embarked upon a process where various courts of the Church tested that call. Until there were enough folk convinced that I had been called and willing to put that to a show of hands.

It was not easy or fun.

It has been and continues to be an honour and a privilege which I treat reverently.

It has been one of my highest joys and on some days it has walked me into the deepest of sorrows.

When I don't know which way is up I know who has called me and that grounds me for what I do next.
