What Does It Mean To Fall From Grace ?

I once watched a Karate match on television.

Little M did Little Dragons, a kids karate program, at a local dojo when he was little but lost interest just as he was getting to the point where he could move to their regular program. That's the extent of my involvement with the martial arts unless you count watching movies.

Martial arts are something I've always avoided. My Senior Pastor has warned us all to stay away from them because of the non-Christian philosophies involved in them.

Interesting, then, that @blackbelt1961, one of the most conservative, committed Christians on here has black belts in three martial arts and teaches his current one.

I've studied Buddhism, which underlies a lot of them, and there is really a lot that could be learned by Christians and others from the teachings of that tradition. IOW, I think your Senior Pastor is being unnecessarily narrow-minded here. However, it is no skin off my teeth that he is like that. You might want to consider looking into some of it on your own, though. There's a lot that you could learn. Yes, you'd be ignoring him. So what? He could be wrong (being human and all).

my pastor said the same thing, alot of pastor lean towards legalism.

about 5 yrs ago there was a ICTF Taekwon Do world tournament held in Toronto, I was asked to help out, so I did, I met a fellow from Puerto Rico who has his own martial art club there, lo and behold he's dad was a Minister, after the tournament he call em up and asked if he could come to church with us on sunday, so him, his wife and a few students all came to church, then spent the day with us and show them around toronto, we been Friends ever since

I think we've discussed this before on the classic Wondercafe Blackbelt, but how do you reconcile the eastern philosophies found in martial arts with your own Christian beliefs? Do you just reject the philosophies and focus on the physical moves involved, or...?

Pardon the cynicism, but one wonders how much of that is legit concern for their followers and how much of it is job security. In religion, perhaps moreso than other areas of life, questioning authority and looking for the truth yourself rather than receiving it from "on high" is important.

.

as i said in my upper post , alot of churches and i find it more with in evangelicals, that they lean more towards legalism, I find the Catholic church more graceful but I dont agree with alot of there political power grabs.

Go figure , were all screw ups in need of grace, and free in Christ to Live , the most beautiful part for me in being a believer is the Presence of the Holy Spirit because regardless of what a pastor might say, in this example the martial arts, Holy Spirit presence in my life confirms what i am .

alot of the eastern philosophies are really blown up especially by the movies , I have yet to find a dojo that teaches there eastern religions, it is all physical fitness and defence.

To fall from grace? Is that a cultured given ... gracious me if people concerned with such thongs forget their self-centred miam-ism as miasmal ...

Recall it is just word ... nothing more than a dark thing in flight ...

Are dark spirits just thoughts about passions gone astray ... thus flames dunked ...

in His name not ours

I wont hold my breath
And neither would I...

The way I see it, the reason we all possess the potential of reaching this "Christ Consciousness" can be summed up in the words of Aristotle when he said that "the whole is greater than the sum of the parts". With this thought in mind, the words of Paul, in Acts17:28 where he describes our Father as "Him" who "we live and move and have our being", makes much more sense.

If we are but individual cells in the body of something greater than us, then the potential for each of us to expand our awareness so as to encompass that whole body should always be there. "This" is what I would consider the Christ Consciousness.

But this is not to say that I would limit the Christ to just this. The Christ Consciousness is a term meant for us individual human beings and for our point of view. If we are but individual cells in the body of something greater than us, then it could be said that those cells themselves could be considered as the individual "atoms" in the Body of something even Greater. "This", I would consider God.

The Universe is ever an aggregation where the smaller things make up the larger. Add the factor of awareness into the mix and the Heavens become limitless.
